About "comparable" TV for replacement

Hello all,

I recently got a confirmation number to bring to a Best Buy store to get a replacement for my TV under my PSP. After reading some of the stories about the "comparable" models I am a bit concerned. I currently have a Samsung 32" LCD TV, model number LNT3242H. I have been very happy with it until the recent problems. Anyone have any ideas of what models or brands I may be offered to replace it with? This one had 3 HDMI ports and the Samsung name was a big selling point for me, but I know they dont measure things like HDMI ports from what I have read here. :smileysad:  I really dont want to be stuck with a brand I dont like and not have the ports I need. Thanks for any replies.

Re: About "comparable" TV for replacement

The main points they look for with a comparable model is display type (LCD), screen size (32"), and resolution (720p). So, they will replace it with a 32" 720p LCD TV. Brand is not taken into consideration, so it will not necessarily be a Samsung. If you need three HDMI ports, I would encourage you to make that known to the employee so they may be able to accommodate you.

Just looking at BB's offerings, they will most likely replace it with this TV. This is just a guess, however, so the store may choose a different model.

Thanks for the reply Nokia. Yea, that is what concerns me, that they will try to offer me the lowest price TV that is "comparable" which is BS. Dynex sucks, they dont last long, reviews are not good for them, and they are low quality. If that is all they offer me, I'm gonna have a problem with that. I'll be heading up there this weekend, I'll post back my experience after I get back.

What did you pay for it if i may ask? That also impacts the replacement. The replacement can not exceed the original cost of the t.v. Technology does advance so the new one will probably cost less.

I paid $899 before taxes for the one I have. I am fine with it costing less, not really an issue like others make it out to be. I really just dont want an off brand TV in replacement for a well made name brand one. Looking at BB's website they have another Samsung which has basically everything mine does for $494. I don't see the problem with me getting that one but I don't know anything, I'm just a customer. :smileytongue:

Re: About "comparable" TV for replacement

You should not be forced to take a TV with a brand you are not comfortable with. To my understanding, the store is supposed to take the amount of the comparable model and put it onto a gift card/store credit card. You can then use that to purchase a TV of your choice. The comparable model the store chooses is just so that their system has an item to present to their insurnace in order to be reimbursed. Personally, I wouldn't trade away a Samsung for a Dynex... maybe for a Sony XBR though.

Re: About "comparable" TV for replacement

From looking around I would agree that the Samsung online for 494 currently seems fairly comparable but that is up to the store of course.

Re: About "comparable" TV for replacement

Just wanted to give an update. I got off work early today so  decided to go ahead and make the trip to my nearest store located in Farragut, TN. Things were not all great when I got there. I gave them the confirmation number I was given on the phone, however, the two people I spoke with, did not seem to be able to find any record of this in their system. :smileysad: They wanted to send the TV off to be repaired. :smileymad: After firmly and repeatedly telling them that I was told to bring the confirmation number to the store to get a replacement TV, they decided to have a 3rd person look at my situation. He was then able to pull up the necessary information and get me started. While I has happy to finally get someone that knew what was going on, the fact that two people did not seem to know how to pull up the required information is disheartening.

After verifying all my information I was told they would look for a TV with "comparable technology" This is what I dreaded. I was very pleasantly surprised when he came back with the Samsung LN32C450! This is basically the newer model TV of the one that I had brought in and the one that I mentioned in an earlier post that I would have been happy to get. He explained the differences to me between the two TV's and got me all fixed up.

I was so worried about getting a TV that I did not want and was very happy to get this taken care of in a positive way. I just wanted to share my update with everyone. Thanks to all who replied to my posts and offered their opinions.

That's awesome news Joe. I'm glad your experience with the Best Buy PSP was a pleasant one. I hope your downtime with no TV wasn't too horrific :smileytongue:.
