I purchased a 42 inch Philips plasma tv ($1600) November 2006. With it I also purchased an extended 4 year warranty plan. To my understanding this extra $300 warranty would cover the tv for in home repair or replacement. On January 28 2010 i placed a call to Best Buy to report that my tv was no longer powering on. They agreed to send some one out to look at it January 29th. I was happy with the date and took the day off from work (day #1) to be able to let the technician into the house. The technicians arrived on this day and after some tinkering concluded that the tv's power supply needed to be replaced. A second appointment was set up for January 10 for the replacement. Again I took the day off from work (day #2) but was informed that morning that due to snow my appointment would be cancelled. The third appointment was scheduled for February 18th and again i took another day off of work (day#3) to be home. The technician showed up with the new power supply, but once it was installed the tv still didnt power on. I called the best buy customer service number but i am unable to get a clear answer on how they plan to fix the situation. So after 3 weeks and three days of salary lost i still have a broken tv and no help from best buy.

Wait, I'm really confused. The first appointment was 1-29, but the second appointment was 1-10? Do you mean vice versa?

It looks like they've ordered a mainboard and a logic board to complete the repair. It is likely that when the power supply (smps) went bad it damaged other components, which theres no way of knowing until they can test with a known good power supply. Hopefully replacing these two additional components will fully repair your product.

Yes, I also bought a "highly recommended TV" (LG 42" plasma) in Dec '06, and it is nothing but trash. I reported a failure 11 days ago. Still no one at my house. Parts are "backordered." Here it is and they can't even tell me when or if they can get the parts. DO NOT PURCHASE EXTENDED WARRANTIES. The TV now sells for about $500 - I spent $250 for the warrantee. Sure wish I had the money, and I would just buy a new TV. I would recommend you hold out for a new TV.

Hi speed_219,
This would be upsetting to anyone that has taken three days off of work to get their TV repaired, and then they still don’t have a working TV. I’m sure the fact that your TV has been in repair for three weeks has made this even more upsetting to you. It does seem like part of the delay was caused by the weather, and unfortunately these types of delays are unavoidable.
I did look into your repair, and I confirmed that the initial part ordered didn’t resolve the problem with your TV. In order for us to repair the TV we would have to order additional parts, and it looks like the parts ordered on your last visit from our technician have now shipped to this tech.
I would like to pass along some personal information, and offer any assistance I can in this matter. I am sending you a private message with this information. To check your messages you should log into the forum, and then click on the letter icon in the upper right-hand corner of the page.
Thanks for posting,
