3yr warranty on ipod touch

My Ipod touch 1g got a little gap between the silver part and the black LCD part where the sleep button is. A piece of paper can get into the gap, I'm just afraid if any dust or anything will get into the device and break my ipod. I think the gap wasn't as big as that, but like .1 cm when I just got my ipod touch back in July 08.

SO my questions are:

1. Could you guys fix it, and if you fix it does it come with a new outterware and the same hardware inside? (i have that PSP thing.. 3yr).

2. Also, if i get this fixed by apple, and if they send me with a new number (like that device number thing..) should I have to update that with bestbuy?

3. is that PSP thing for just once?

Re: 3yr warranty on ipod touch

1. There's no way to tell unless it's sent in to the service center. Bring it in and it will be sent out. As for what will be replaced, that is determined by the service center. Generally though, cosmetic damage is not covered.

2. The PSP isn't tied to a serial number, so no, you wouldn't have to update anything.

3. The product can be repaired an infinite number of times. If it is replaced within the one year manu. warranty, the PSP continues. If it is replaced outside of the manu. warranty, the PSP is fulfilled and you must buy a new one to continue coverage.

Re: 3yr warranty on ipod touch

Hello smilemask10,

I’m sorry to hear about the problem with your iPod.  I depend upon mine daily and would be concerned about anything happening to it, just like you are.

My thanks go to Nokia for answering your questions, but I have some additional information to offer, so here goes:

1.  The unit will have to be diagnosed, probably at a Best Buy® service center.  If the unit qualifies for repair (the problem is a result of defect or normal use, and has not sustained damage), the unit will be returned to you repaired.  Otherwise, you’ll be contacted to discuss options.  As Nokia pointed out, if the damage is found to be cosmetic (meaning that it doesn’t affect the performance of the iPod), it will not be repaired.

2.  If the iPod Touch is replaced by Apple, you’ll need to retain proof of the replacement.  The serial number is recorded by Best Buy® when first presented for service and, if the serial number doesn’t match on future occasions, covered service will be declined.  As a matter of practice, always retain your service documentation and purchase receipt!

3.  The PSP (Performance Service Plan) has a no lemon clause that limits the number of repairs that will be completed.  Your product will be replaced after having been repaired three times and having the need for a fourth diagnosed.  If your iPod is replaced after the expiration of the factory warranty, your PSP is fulfilled and you’ll need to purchase a new Geek Squad® Black Tie Protection plan for your replacement product if you wish to continue to enjoy the coverage.

I hope this helps.  If you have any additional questions, please don’t hesitate to let us know!

Sincerely,

Re: 3yr warranty on ipod touch

I think that a gap wouldn't be considered cosmetic it could be accidental damage which is covered under the plan.  I would take it into a local Best Buy to find out.  However be prepared to lose all your content.
