Long time customer, unhappy with switch shortage response.

I am very unhappy with Best Buy's response to the switch shortage. While I realize that this is actually Nintendo's problem, you are the ones who sell their product. I work full time. Your stock is placed on the shelves at 10:00am. Meaning I may not get a switch for many months. Again it is my fault for missing the pre-order window. What I don't understand is why I cannot place an order for a switch now and wait a few weeks/ months to receive my switch. I have spent thousands of dollars over the years at Best Buy, but after this purchase, which I have saved a couple gift cards, I don't think I will purchase any more products from Best Buy. I signed up for the emails, but I haven't recieved an email in several weeks. Again I realize the best way is to check the status on line frequently, which Inhave done, but unless you recieve and stock shipments on the weekend, which i doubt and you won't tell me, I really do have no chance of getting this system anytime soon.

Re: Long time customer, unhappy with switch shortage response.

Well I hazard to say many people would be very upset to be allowed to place an order for and item that Best Buy has no idea of its availability.

If you do a little research on issues releated to the Switch it may indicate that there have been a lot of functional issues with the Switch and Nintnedo has most likely yanked production until they can address the mountain of issues.

I work full time

Nobody, no matter where they are shopping, seem to have a chance of getting a Switch any time soon.

I would actually not be surprised if Nintendo yanks the entire project and starts over.

I think the latest issue with the consol's melting has them concerned.

Pleaase be aware Best Buy cannot simply yank into Nintendo and make them produce the Switch.

Re: Long time customer, unhappy with switch shortage response.

I think you are missunderstanding my point. I already indicated the main problem is with Nintendo. Whether they ultimately pull the console has very little to do with my concern. My frustration is that even if I was to get an email from my local store that a switch was in stock, that switch would be gone before I am able to make it to the store about 8-10 hours later. They are able to backorder many other products including iPhones, iPads, etc. I don't understand how the switch is different. I am not asking them to "yank" anything from Nintendo.

Re: Long time customer, unhappy with switch shortage response.

My apologies but I may have worded it poorly.

Best Buy is not going to make available for back order a product they do not have any idea of when they are going to get.

Re: Long time customer, unhappy with switch shortage response.

Thank you for your input. It is that kind of backward corporate thinking, that is going to lose them a very loyal long time customer and it is very difficult to understand that position in light of them already doing that for other products i.e. Pre-ordered games, iPhones etc. I will not tie myself to a retailer who is that short sighted. It would be very simple to take a small refundable deposit, set up list of customers and charge them the remainder of the purchase price upon shipping. They could still send a small trickle of devices to the stores, but it would give those of us that are in my situation the ability to get the console at some point in the future, with my understanding that they do not know when that would or could occur. In my opinion that would be better than this ridiculous solution of check back frequently and rush to the store with the unrealistic hope that one will be on the shelf.

Re: Long time customer, unhappy with switch shortage response.

Hello Ivehadbetter,

Thank you for writing in and sharing your perspective on trying to purchase a Nintendo Switch. This definitely appears to be the "IT" gadget for 2017, and you are not alone in your desire to purchase one.

While this may not be what you were hoping to hear, the most fair way we can get these consoles to customers is by making them available as they are received. Occasionally we may hold back units for special ads, such as we did this past Sunday, but other than that you should see them hitting the sales floor as they are received to the store's warehouse.

I am sorry we can not reserve your console today, but I hope you are able to get one soon, and I hope it comes from Best Buy. Please visit our forum any time you have additional questions or feedback. We value your input.

Sincerely,

Mike|Senior Social Media Specialist | Best Buy® Corporate

Re: Long time customer, unhappy with switch shortage response.

Thank you for the response. I realize customer service is difficult at times and appreciate the time you took to respond to my criticism and suggestion. I respectfully disagree that your method is the most fair way, as Best Buy seems to be prioritizing in store sales over online sales. I have noticed a concerted effort on Best Buy's part to push the online market place in conjunction with he store front ecosystem, but yet on one of the biggest product releases, Best Buy has decided to back track. I am disappointed. As I indicated before, since I do have gift cards that I need to use, I will be purchasing the Switch from Best Buy, if it is ever available. Based on your response, it will be my last purchase from Best Buy. Thanks.

Re: Long time customer, unhappy with switch shortage response.

It's actually not a priority for in store sells. You see, the problem with a high demand product on sale online for a whole country of 50 states means there are people like yourself all trying to buy from the same pool. When you go to the store locally, you're just competing against people in the same city as you. This is for the most part how all retailers are going to be and arguably the biggest difference between buying online and in store.

For what it's worth, Switch consoles have been coming to my local Best Buy stores pretty frequently. I preordered mine so I've had no problems, but I've actually purchased a second one for a friend when I saw it just sitting on the shelf in the late afternoon (he was at work and was unable to commute over to claim it himself). The demand is high, but it is actually being replenished often and it's getting to the point where you don't have to line up at the stores in the morning (and just need to show up on the same day).

The system is only two months old anyway, there really isn't any harm in waiting longer. I love my Switch, but I can also admit that it still has a ways to go till it builds a good stable of games. I'm sure if you just keep an eye on your local stores, you'll have no trouble getting one within the next couple weeks.
