what to buy

Hello,

I have a 5 year old boy, a 4 year old girl and a 2 year old girl.  I would like to buy them a video game console.  What do you recommend?  Wii? Sony?  why?

thanks,

David

Re: what to buy

The Xbox with kinect has been a blast for y 7 year old. There are lots of simple fun games that get them interacting and actually staying semi active also.

Kinectimals is a good pet game where you interact with multiple animals. Perfect if you don't/can't have pets.

Fruit ninja is fun for all ages and all you have to do us swing your arms to "cut" the fruit.

Gunstringer is great for the little cowboy/cowgirl. You basically control a marionette cowboy. One hand controls it like you would a marionette and the other hand you use like a gun (yup just like you used to when you played cowboys and Indians). It's great cause you can play 2 player and only 1 person controls the marionette and both have seperate "guns" (meaning the little ones can just shoot away).

Also Sesame Street : Once Upon A Monster is actually a really good game. It gets a little repetitive, but young kids (3-4) can do most of it with only a few lessons from you.

Kinect is pretty decent for adults, but it's a blast for kids. All the games above I listed have been on sale for between $10-$20 also. All you have to do is be patient.

Re: what to buy

I would agree with Jimmienomam as well. In my personal opinion, Xbox with Kinect would be the best choice. Kinect Sports, Kinect Adventures, and Dance Central would be fun games for younger kids. I bet your girls would have an absolute BLAST playing Dance Central!

As they get older, they also can take advantage of using the 360 for gaming (and not just your son!). I think in the future, the advances of Kinect will surpass any attempts from Sony or Nintendo in terms of motion gaming, if this is a driving factor in your decision.

I admit, as Jimmie knows, I am a huge Xbox gamer! I also like to encourage girls to game, as it is not just for boys anymore. :smileyhappy:

Your whole family would have so much fun for many years with an Xbox and Kinect! Hope that helps and good luck!!

Re: what to buy

David, to offer a different opinon, I would suggest the Wii. You sound like you have limited gaming experience and the wii is a simple, kid friendly system. I find the game choice are a lot better for families and priced better as well. With the xbox 360, you will have to pay more for the system, the kinect feature as well and the game choices are a little limited. I think the wii is a more reliable device as well with children. The controllers for the wii do eat up batteries, while the xbox's recharge and for the kinect games you are the controller, but overall I would suggest the wii for a family with younger children.
