World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King

[ Edited ]

As some of you might know, I am a huge WOW gamer.  I was wondering if anyone else out there is stoked about the expansion slated to come out on November 13th?  I, for one, am very intrigued. I enjoy the time it takes to level to 80 and exploring all the new content.  In playing our Beta account I have concluded that the starter area and quests for the Death Knights are going to totally rock!!  Northrend itself looks amazing as well as all the new mounts.  Who doesn't want a motorcycle mount?  Or even better, the Mammoth mount?  You can carry a friend!  Who wants to loan me 25k gold???   Another absolutely awesome thing is the achievement system.  My husband was playing my hunter and he fell off a cliff, and he got an achievement.  The achievement was "Fall 65 yards without dying".  Didn't seem like too much of an achievement to me, but apparently if you fall 66 yards, you always die.  Also, inscription seems sweet!  I have been collecting herbs, because it is going to be a total money maker for all those leveling up inscription.  WTS 2k Peacebloom!

All in all, I am just super pumped!  I plan on taking some time off that week to immerse myself.  Who's with me???

For the Horde!!

Re: World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King

I am totally with you there. The second I saw my friend playing this game over 2 1/2 years ago I immediately fell in love with it.

I had a question about the release: Would you happen to know if Best Buy is going to do a midnight release of WotLK? I'm looking forward to staying up all night and leveling up all my characters (paladin, warlock, mage, hunter, priest and upon release DK [yes, I have no life, I'm a college student =D]).

Anyway, if you have any info I'd be very appreciative.

Many thanks,

Bari

Howdy Bari!

First, let me start by saying, it is refreshing to talk to a fellow Horde!  Not that there is anything wrong with Alliance, I am just saying…

To answer your questions, it appears that over 250 of our stores will have a midnight release of Lich King however without knowing where you live, I do not know if your store is one of the listed.  My best advice is to call your local store, speak to a gaming associate, and ask them if they will be doing a midnight opening for this awesome expansion!

Did you pre-order yet?  I will actually be there at midnight to get mine because like you, I  am totally addicted!  How are you enjoying the new talents?  My prot pally is having some issues with aggro generation, however my shadow priest is amazing after the patch, even with the nerf to mana pots during fights.  We did Karazhan the night after 3.0 and we killed the Maiden in 28 seconds.  Yes…. 28 ….seconds!!!    We also did Black Wing Lair this weekend and it was a total zergfest.  One point of notice is that you still need your Onyxia cloak to live through shadowflame on Nefarion, (or to be a very good at hiding by his throne).

I could talk about Warcraft all day, but I must go complete my other quest…the quest for meaningful communication in a virtual world!

Talk to you later!

Re: World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King

Hello again Dorothy,

I live in Austin at the moment so I'm pretty sure at least one store here should be having a midnight release. I'll make my round of calls tomorrow =D, thanks for the info.

Oh I love the new talent points, I've been messing with my pally and warlock mostly and pre-Divine Storm nerf my pally was insanely OP (not that he still isn't =P). I thoroughly enjoyed becoming a demon with my warlock but it just didn't feel as powerful as Affliction; Destruction has always been fun but when I'm always focused in Arenas it's not too viable =(. Oh and about mages...Arcane - enough said.

We did an Onyxia, Molten Core, and Blackwing Lair run last week. We ran into a little trouble with MC, not enough people had the Eternal Quintessence to put out the runes and it's on an hour cooldown...just about the time it took us to clear it.

Hehe, yeah I could keep talking about WoW but yeah...I've proven myself a WoWaholic...

Thanks again,

Bari

P.S. Only reason I responded so quickly was because my server is down...yay for maintenance...-_-

P.P.S. And because it's good to talk to another WoW addict :smileyhappy:

Hey Bari,

Our server was down last night also. It was just awful!!

Since we talked last, I found a great tool to use to check on midnight openings.  Apparently, there is a tool on Bestbuy.com that is readily available to the public. If you check bestbuy.com/midnightopenings (add the www of course)  there is a comprehensive list of the stores for all sorts of new games, including our favorite!!

Now on to more important conversation.  I TANKED BLACK TEMPLE LAST NIGHT FOR THE FIRST TIME!!! ZOMG!  Yes, I know, it is kind of silly, but I had never tanked past Zul'Aman, and even then I was just an Off tank.  My prot pally is my alt, and I have never played a tank class before.  Most of the run I just off tanked trash, but on Reliquary of Souls, the main tank in the guild had me tank phase three, because I don't have rage, therefore I am immune to the rage induced damage that plagues warriors during that phase.  The first time we pulled too many of the ghosts before pulling the boss, so we died.  Then the second time, we got to phase three, but people were pulling off me like mad, and someone pointed out I did not have my righteous fury up.  I felt really dumb.  Then the third time, I tanked it like a pro!!

Can I presume your paladin is Ret?  I respecced on Monday night to Ret so I could own face, but I was wondering if they did nerf it yesterday?  I had to respec prot for the raid and was just curious.

Who needs Blizzard forums, when you and I can chat here!!!

Take care, and enjoy the expansion.

Re: World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King

Thanks for the information on the midnight releases...very helpful!  I'm very interested in getting the Collectors edition of WOTLK.  Will I be able to pre-order online (not there yet) or do you know if there will be copies on hand at the midnight release?

What do you suggest?

Thanks,

Darren

Re: World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King

Hey greatnitz,

It appears that we are not offering the Collector's Edition (CE) as a pre-sell option.   There will be a limited number on release, which will be available on a first come, first serve basis.  I am actually debating whether or not I want to invest in the CE again; I got one last year with The Burning Crusade, and have enjoyed the Netherwhelp and soundtrack.  When I originally bought the game, I did not get the CE then, so I am torn.

Who am I kidding!?!?  I know I will totally be looking for one at midnight releases.

I hope this helps to answer your questions.  Enjoy Northrend!!

p.s.  I know we say "For the Horde", but do the alliance have a battle call?

Awesome another WoW addict, welcome greatnitz!

I'm a bit disappointed that there isn't going to be an Austin midnight release =(. Though, since I'll be buying two copies I guess I can get to Best Buy bright and early to get the CE after getting my midnight copy from some other source :smileysad:

P.S. You know, I've never actually thought about that. I've heard "For Khaz Modan" and some other racial battle calls, but nothing that encompasses all of the Alliance...hmm interesting.

Re: World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King

Bari,

Did you actually call the two Austin stores?  I thought I saw them on the listing I had internally, I did not actually check the .com site, but I would still encourage you to call the two Austin stores. However, I don't know where they are situated geographically from you.

What do you play greatnitz?

Re: World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King

I called stores 1153 Mueller Airport, 203 No. Austin, 204 So. Austin, and 1116 Techridge. The first three told me that they were not going to have a midnight release. Techridge told me that it's still nothing official and that they think the North and South Austin Best Buys should be hosting midnight releases and to keep checking the website for more info.

So I guess I'll just have to wait until it gets closer to the release to be sure.
