Let's Talk Games

Everyone has a favorite guilty pleasure in video games.  Some of them are well known and some are very obscure.  Share with me what game caught your attention and simply devoured your time!

I will go first - I have four games that I found to be captivating, fun and very interesting that spring to mind. 

Super Mario Brothers 3 for Super NES - This was one of the first games I really got hooked on.  I remember spending hours playing this and I was so excited when I got the raccoon suit!!

Gauntlet for Nintendo 64 - BLUE WARRIOR NEEDS FOOD BADLY!!!  This was one awesome game.  I spent hours getting my character maxed out and leveled up.  At the end if you beat everything in the game, you got a halo over your head and you started the game over in hard mode.  Fun, fun, and I don't think any of the newer versions quite measured up.  

Dark Cloud for PS2 -  This is a game you might have never played, but I loved it.  It was a combination of Sim type technology where you built the story and action game.  You were trying to put history back together and the actions you took as well as the placement you made with pieces of the story would determine whether or not you did well in the game.  Plus Steve the talking sling shot was epic!

Final Fantasy 9 for the Playstation - This was my first FF experience.  I had logged 30 hours on the game when my memory card went kaput and I had to start all over again.  For some reason it just lured me in and I could not stop playing!!

My very first offical videogame was Pong. Man, we played that thing for hours and hours and hours. This was the old console with just the two paddles. At that time we thought it was the coolest thing every in the history of the world.

I would have to say that Skies of Arcadia on the dreamcast and FF7 on the playstation are my two favorites of all times.

I have always loved the Call of Duty series on the PC.

Up until now, I have owned every videogame console released since Pong.

Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo have priced alot of people out of gaming with $400-$500 consoles and $60 games.

I used to love Bases Loaded on NES, as well as Mike Tysons' Punch Out.

Nintendo 64- Had some great wrestling games (the names escape me right now), as well as Aelda 64, and 007 64

I agree with the pricing on the systems making it too heft an investment.  I think the only gaming system I have missed prior to PS2 was the Sega Genesis.  

My grandparents had the pong game.  Too leet!

I also remember working at a day care that had arcade console style games.  I was a mad woman at Asteroids and Galaga.  And on our old Apple IIe clone we had moon patrol and one game that was about big dino feet smashing you while you tried to get the eggs.  

As far as arcade style goes, I have a funny story that haunts me to this day.  Bear with me if I have told this story already...but my friends Kristy, Jason and I used to play the video game based on the band "Journey".  The goal of this game was to "get the concert" after you had all the instruments.  We played this game after work for months, each of us mastering a different instrument.  Finally, we got the concert.  

It went to cut scene where cartoon Journey members walked out and music played and the phrase "stone in love". 

......seriously?!?!?!?

That is all they said.... it literally lasted 7 seconds maybe? We were so irate!!!

Ahhh the memories!!!

Ah, I loved Skies of Arcadia! I thought about playing it again a few weeks ago, but then remembered that my Dreamcast hasn’t functioned in quite some time.

Here are a few of my favorites:

Final Fantasy VIII (PS1)

Most people I know tend to wonder why I don’t prefer FFVII over this game, but there was something about the story that drew me to it. Sure, the “romantic entanglements” that suddenly appear towards the end seem a bit forced, but I can forgive it that much because I actually like most of the characters.  That, and the opening song "Liberi Fatali" was really cool.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (PC)

I have to admit that when I first picked this game up I didn’t even like Star Wars. The amount of detail that went into the game’s alignment system and the BIG plot twist, however, were more than enough to give me an appreciation for the series and its expanded universe. HK-47 rocks!

Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen (SNES)

This is probably one of the few strategy-based video games that I’ve played and enjoyed. I’m just glad that I managed to snag one of few original copies when it was first released – it’s nearly impossible to find now, even used.

How could I forget "Jungle Hunt" on Atari, and Cops and Robbers.

Great topic. So many titles have come and gone...

Atari 2600--Missle Command...I really thought I was saving the world from nuclear annihilation

Sega Master System--Black Belt...I still play this game on my computer via emulater from time to time. Brings back memories.

NES-Ninja Gaiden--though it was nothing like the arcade version, it was a very well done game.

Turbo Grafix 16--China Warrior...This system only lasted a year, but it was fun while it lasted. This game was just Kung Fu knock-off with larger sprites.

PlayStation 1--Gran Turismo...way ahead of it's time.

PlayStation 2--Red Faction 1/2 Great games. If you ever see these in the .99 cent bin, pick them up.

IBM PC---Wing Commander series, Flight Simulator series, and countless others.

Well, im not exactly from the pong era, but lets see what i can scrounge up  

PC: 

Unreal Tournament 99 -- Amazing advancements for FPS gaming at the time, especially AI control. Also, the sequels only got better, in my opinion  

Exile series -- Amazing old indie games by SpiderwebSoftware, this is what i grew up on...i still download the decade-and-a-half-old games for a ton of fun ^.^ 

Road Rash -- Dont know a better motorcycle racing game even today; make the graphics next-gen and i'd be addicted aalll over again  

Arcanum -- Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura: Best game EVER in my book, featuring an intense story, great character diversity, and completely non-linear gameplaY

Zoombini's Logical Journey -- pretty much just solve puzzles with smurf-like people...probably only reason im really smart at all (although a lot of my vocabulary came from the Exile games)

PS1: 

Ehrgeiz -- Classic dungeon-crawler and fighting game 

Legend of the Dragoon -- My favourite rpg for any console great story and relatively great graphics

Legend of Legaia -- first console game I ever played; love the music, love the story, i just couldnt get past halfway through the game, because it wasnt the most exciting thing, going through its dungeons as an impatient 7-year-old. great combat system, too  

Final Fantasy Origins -- Why not? FF1 and 2 remade for the PS1, all i need to say

S/NES etc.: (emulated)

Super Mario Brothers 3 -- Super Mario Brothers 3. Enough said.

Zelda games -- amazing old rpg, etc. etc. you all know it

Nintendo 64:

Super Mario 64 -- never good at it, but that didnt stop the fun! 

Mario Kart 64 -- currently prefer Mario Kart Wii, but its a classic!

Super Smash Bros. -- Get 'em, Kirby! Ah-ha, I have the hammer! *hammer music*. Epic. Win.

Gameboy/GB Colour:  

The pokemon series -- big pokemon fan growing up, and i still cant resist playing red/blue/yellow again now and then still

 More zelda games -- if it was this good before, having it handheld it only an improvement
