Recommendations of lesser known games

I wanted to make a thread to inform people of games they may have overlooked, but we're great games. Those diamonds in the rough.

I always liked buying these older games as they are usually dirt cheap and get a lot of bang for your buck. It's also hard when you first get a system to not just grab the big games being released now and not experience all the monumental games that came before.

All I ask is to TRY to steer clear of AAA titles as I'm pretty sure these are self explanatory should play games. Also try to at least give a genre of the game. I personally am looking forward to seeing what games I missed out on.

Re: Recommendations of lesser known games

Oh yeh and make it this generations consoles.

My first one is Chrono Cross [RPG]. I know it's a PS1 game, but was released late last year for PSN.

It's the sequel to Chrono Trigger. The great thing is a lot of CT devs were on board for this sequel also. Not as good as the original, but it got some high praise in its days. The graphics are obviously outdated, but if you can get past that it's a great game.

Re: Recommendations of lesser known games

Enslaved on Xbox - came out the same day as RDR in May 2010. It got way overlooked. It's a Microsoft Studios game and it's fun. It's a pretty quick game but it would be worth it since it's pretty cheap now.

Mafia II - overlooked by GTA. It's kind of similar to GTA, but I liked it because of the little things in the game, such as the music and cars. It was a fun play of about 25 hours. FYI: the DLC was garbage.

Super Meat Boy - XBLA platform game. Super fun and at times, very tough. I made my boyfriend beat it for me.

Re: Recommendations of lesser known games

Yeah that was an amazing release month. Not only was enslaved released then, but Alan Wake was released then also.

Which is my second game to bring up. Alan Wake sold well, but I think it got overshadowed by RDR. Alan Wake had great storytelling and great gameplay. It was a semi unique game that deserved so much more accolades then what it received.

I agree with Mafia 2. Great game. Even got the CE a couple months ago when BBY had it for $9.50.

I also loved Alan Wake, but I wasn't sure I would consider it "lesser known" :smileylol:

Oh yeah, 2010 was epic for games!!

Isn't Enslaved a Ninja Theroy game? Not Microsft Studios? I bought it as part of a deal. Traded it in without playing it. I hear mixed things. Friend didn'tt like it and we have very similar taste so I assume I wouldn't. I would of played it but back long was mean during that time,
Probably would say Nier. Story is interesting. Not great though. If you like action/adventure games it's enjoyable. Very basic gameplay but it works well. Probably one of the best things about the game is the music. Just beautiful. Besides that game I say Earth Defense Forces.

Re: Recommendations of lesser known games

Oh yeah it is. In the intro, it says Microsoft, and it is an Xbox exclusive. That was just me being lazy and then I had to go check!

But it was fun. I liked the environment most of all. Very bright, vibrant colors. It would've been a great co-op game but it was also fun in single player.

I mean, it's not particularly special, but it's a fun play and worth the 15 hours of gameplay.

Ok, it was an Xbox exclusive but now it's not. Wow, I have to pull it together!
