Introductions

[ Edited ]

Results from our initial scans of the interwebs show there may be other strange, gamer-like life forms out there somewhere.  We had commissioned an away team to scour the terrain for more data but we believe they got stuck in something called an "MMO" and we have not since heard from them.  As such, we are sending out this message to find out more about these gaming-inclined "users" that frequent our little corner of the www.

So, if you're planning to stick around or just want to introduce yourself to our friendly gaming community (they don't byte), you are more than welcome to and this is the thread to do it.  Who knows, you may meet a fellow gamer in your area, or perhaps some fresh competition?

Cool to share:

  • What name/call-sign you prefer to go by on the forums
  • Game platform preference
  • Favorite game
  • Favorite game genre
  • Gamer ID (Gamertag, PSN name, iOS GameCenter name, Steam username, etc.)
  • Server name for MMO-ers
  • Clan info (Please no excessive posting for recruiting)
  • Your gaming history/accomplishments
  • Current gamer score on [insert platform] (purely for bragging rights)
  • General area of residence
  • Why you like Best Buy for gaming
  • Fun facts

Not cool to share:

  • Full name
  • Email address
  • Physical/Mailing address
  • Phone number
  • Social Security number
  • Reward Zone Account number
  • Links to commerce-enabled external sites (per our Community Guidelines)

Re: Introductions

First!

Hey, I’m Kyle.  I work for Best Buy and I’m currently the primary Moderator for these Gaming boards.

I’ve been playing video games since I was a wee little one.  Started on NES playing Mega Man, Zelda, and Mario Bros. and have played games on almost every console since then (including PC).  I just know someone is going to name some obscure console so emphasis on “almost”.

The genres I am particularly fond of are Turn-Based Strategy, RPG, Action-RPG, FPS, and open world games.  Not the biggest fan of sports in gaming or in the Entertainment industry in general and I make no apologies for that (Ryan-BBY will probably be writing those blogs).  I dabbled in WoW for about 3-years.  My favorite series is Mass Effect so, as you might imagine I am really super stoked for ME3 on 3/6.

Re: Introductions

You can't first your own post!!!! I call shenanigans.

I'll post my info later, but just wanted to say its good to see that we CAN share gamer tags now.

I would also add in a clause in case someone excessively posts for recruiting you can suspend/ban them if extreme.

Re: Introductions

Ahh yes, good call callout about the recruiting.  I'll edit the OP to include that.

Re: Introductions

My name is Mariel and I love Xbox. I'm pretty much the coolest female gamer you will ever meet... and then you will get whooped by me.

When I was a child, I was deprived of video games. My mother let me have 3 different Nintendo Game Boys, but by the time I was in college (yes, at the age of 21) I got my Xbox. Some people say it all went downhill after that, but oh the contrary.

The original reason why I wanted an Xbox was to play Guitar Hero and GTA 4. I happily mastered Guitar Hero and after GTA 4, really got into FPS and RPGs like Fallout 3. The games I like are listed in my profile, but my favs are L4D1 and 2, Mass Effect Series, anything by Bioware or Rockstar (Bioshock, DAO, RDR, GTA, LA.Noire) ... the list goes on and on.

Now I'm lucky enough to work for Best Buy and talk about everything gaming all day everyday. Looking up the latest titles, checking on ME3 and the PS VIta release, helping people out with preorder bonuses... how often does someone get to say they actually get to deal with their passion for their job?

Re: Introductions

gpete13, PS3 user and occasional wii user - for Monster Hunter

Been playing video games since we got a Texas Instrument ti-49 then to a  Commodore 64. Then bought my self a Sega Genesis in college played with that for a few years, then have been a Playstation fan since. Never used an Xbox controller or game system and most likely never will.

Types of games I play:

hack'n slash RPGs, love co-op games, my wife enjoys playing as well.

Sports games- Madden, NCAA Football, basketball, UFC, occasional baseball and hockey, some Tiger Woods

Shooters, I'm not so into them but they are fun, loved SOCOM II online, some MW2 and really digging Gotham City Imposters

Platform - Little Big Planet, God of War, Kingdom Hearts, nothing too crazy, didn't like Drakes or Infamous

Best games:

TI-49 Hunt the Wampus

C64 - Some Dungeon games like Bards Tale III

Playstation - Diablo, pssst over here

Playstation 2- Kindom Hearts, God of War, SOCOM II

PS3 - Borderlands, Rock Band 2 (I must of download 250-300 songs)

Games I don't like

Real Time Strategy

Tower Games

Turn based RPGs

Not a huge fan of racing games, although Mod Nation Racers is fun and love the co-op racing

Lame Mario or Sonic games

On a personal side, unfortunately I've been out of work for the past year, laid off. The good thing is when I am not trying to find a job, I have time to play lots of games. And also not having the stress of working and comuting 65+ hours a week to run a department has reduced my gray hair accumulation and extended my life by a few years. I have no children that I am aware of.

Re: Introductions

Welcome, gpete13!

I am seriously impressed with the wide variety of games you like and have tried. Your cred is solid in my book!

Good luck in finding a job; I know what that is like. But for now, you can share your wisdom with us here on the forum! Welcome!

Re: Introductions

Welcome gpete13!

I love how you listed a graphing calculator as a gaming console.  That's awesome.  I was actually a TI-83 user; my introduction into the world of programming.  I spent many-a study hall reading through the manual and programming weird games.  I remember making a version of pong where the ball trajectory was set to random... it had more comedic value than gameplay value.  I even made a text-based RPG that tracked stats and everything.  Well, that was a nice jaunt down memory lane.

Anyways, it's good to have you in the discussion here!

Re: Introductions

I also used to (read: still do) program TI-83s. I used to sell Trig programs for $5 before tests (approved by my teacher, I promise)
