Valentines.jpgValentine’s Day is right around the corner, so if you’re planning on a romantic night out, I hope you’ve got your reservations set, flowers ordered, and a string quartet set to serenade you. Too much? Maybe, but hey, you might as well go all out! If you’re reading this and you just realized you forgot that Valentine’s Day is this week (it’s on Thursday, by the way), don’t worry, you’ve still got time to make it a memorable one.

Whether you’re planning on a night out on the town or staying in to relax, Best Buy has you covered with some great movies that you can leave with your babysitter to help entertain your kids while you’re out, movies that you can watch as a family, and movies that just the two of you can watch together.

Leaving the kids at home with a babysitter?

If you’re planning on heading out for the night and leaving your kids with a babysitter, why not make it a fun night for them too by picking up a movie you know they’ll love?

Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax has been very popular since its release and really is a movie that anyone will enjoy, even the babysitter. This 2012 film is the second adaption of Dr. Seuss’ famous children’s book and was released to coincide with the 108th birthday of Seuss. It features the voices of Zac Efron, Danny DeVito, Ed Helms, Taylor Swift, and Betty White, and is available on 3D Blu-ray, Blu-ray, and DVD. It is rated PG, and you can check out the trailer here.

Hotel.jpgHotel Transylvania was just recently released on 1/29/13, and is another family-friendly flick that I even find myself laughing out loud to while watching the trailer. Hotel Transylvania is a place where the monsters of the world can go to get a break from all of us pesky humans, but when one stumbles upon the hotel accidentally, well, you’ll have to watch it to find out what happens. This film features the voices of Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez, Kevin James, and many more. It is available on 3D Blu-ray, Blu-ray, and DVD, and is rated PG.

Making it a night in with the family?

If you’re looking to avoid all of the crowded restaurants and spend the night with your family, I know you’ll enjoy The Lorax and Hotel Transylvania just as much as your kids will. But if you’re looking for something with a bit more humor that you would enjoy and your kids are a bit older, we’ve got some movies for that too.

Here Comes The Boom was just recently released this month and is an inspirational and funny story of a high school teacher thinking outside of the box to help raise enough money to avoid extra-curricular activities getting cut. It stars Kevin James, Salma Hayek, and Henry Winkler, and is rated PG. It is available on Blu-ray, and DVD, and you can view the trailer here.

HP.jpgHarry Potter has been a hugely successful series, and whether you’re just starting or are finishing up with the series, these films have something for everybody. With eight films spanning ten years to complete the series, there is plenty to get into, so why not take the night to check out the first one or catch up and finally find out how it all ends? You can find them all individually on Blu-ray and DVD here, or get the entire collection in either Blu-ray or DVD. Some of these films are rated PG and some are PG-13, so be sure to check the ratings before deciding if these are right for your kids.

Just the two of you?

There are so many movies that come to mind when I think of great date-night movies, and I’m sure everyone has their favorites. There are of course the ones that I think a lot of people think of like The Notebook or The Vow, classics like Casablanca and An Affair to Remember, and too many more to even begin naming. However, if you’re looking for something a little lighter that has a bit more comedy yet is still romantic, there are a couple of great titles that you may have missed recently.

Midnight in Paris has been out for a little over a year now, and is a romantic comedy/drama Midnight.jpgwritten by Woody Allen. It stars Owen Wilson, Rachel McAdams, Kathy Bates, and Adrien Brody. It is the story of Gil Pender (Wilson) and his fiancée, Inez (McAdams), as they travel to Paris. Each night, Gil finds himself in the 1920s in Paris, which is an era that he idolizes. He brushes shoulders with the likes of Cole Porter, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, and Pablo Picasso. Through his visits and his chats with these people, he discovers what it is that he is really looking for out of his relationship, and finds love in an unlikely place. It is available on Blu-ray and DVD, and you can view the trailer here.

Hope.jpgHope Springs has only been out since December, and it stars Meryl Streep, Tommy Lee Jones, and Steve Carrell. It follows the story of a couple looking to reignite the spark in their marriage after many years of drifting apart. They undergo a week of intense couple’s therapy, and begin to re-discover why it was they fell in love in the first place. It is available on Blu-ray and DVD, and you can check out the trailer here.

I enjoyed the soundtrack from Midnight in Paris.  I think it is a nice mix for relaxing or a romantic evening.

I really enjoyed Here Comes the Boom.  In my opinion, it is one of the better movies out there that has tried to incorporate MMA (Mixed Martial Arts).  I have also been a fan of Kevin James since The King of Queens, so how can you go wrong? Smiley Happy
