by Community Connector Community Connector on 07-19-2011 12:45 PM

Last year the tournament drew over 950 teams and a little over 13,000 soccer players from all over the world including 25 states and 16 countries! The USA Cup is a full week experience all about football, or better known here in the states as soccer.

July 19th will hold an opening ceremony similar to that of big sporting events showcasing all the teams in the USA Cup. A multicolored parade of teams escorts the lighting of a cauldron. Each team is identified with their team uniform color or country’s flags colors. This is all followed by a neat fireworks show and a live concert! USA Cup World Cup group matches start the same day and matches run through Saturday July 23rd which features the semi-finals and finals.

The USA Cup is hosted by the massive National Sports Center in Blaine, Minnesota that includes 50 full sized soccer fields and a soccer stadium.

The USA Cup is not all about playing the beautiful sport. Teams have the opportunity to meet teams from a different club, a different city or even a different country. Is it up to them what they’d like to do, like enjoy a picnic together or tour the Twin Cities. Visitors have the chance to really experience Minnesota, with complimentary transportation to Target Field, home of the Minnesota Twins to watch a ball game and other tourist attractions.

Other activities include a 5K dash where players can chose to run while dribbling a soccer ball. Of course you have the chance to win awesome prizes! Also an Athlete party filled with fun activities and lots of dancing. As you can see this is a well rounded week full of nothing but soccer. We wish every team the best of luck and Joga Bonito.
