Have you ever left home for the day wondering if you left the lights on? Forgot to adjust the thermostat? Left the coffee pot on? Or even worse, forgot to lock a door? I know I have, but soon these worries will be a thing of the past. Someday our homes will be smart enough to automatically adjust to the changing environment (saving on energy costs), and all devices in the home will be connected to one network that can be controlled/monitored remotely.
Basically a Smart home allows anyone with access to the home’s network to control and monitor any device in the home from anywhere, and the home can be pre-programmed to change a setting under specified circumstances. For example, a Smart Home could be set to detect when a room is empty and automatically shut off the lights in that room.
A common technology used in Smart Homes is called Z-Wave wireless technology, and many of the products we sell to increase the IQ of your home comes with this technology. Z-Wave technology can control everything from a Trane Energy Management Thermostat to Schalge’s LiNK home lock system. Z-Wave has a very informative demo on their technology and, I have to admit, I was impressed.
So if you’re the proud owner of the average not-so-intelligent house. you might want to look into some home education, and not only make your house smarter but save money in the process.
