Hey Everyone,

Samsung TL220.JPGAs digital cameras became more compact and affordable, people started carrying them everywhere they go. It seems like everywhere I am someone has a camera with them, and in fact anyone with a cell phone almost assuredly has a camera with them.

This availability of cameras has led to images being taken everywhere, and anywhere. One type of photo that I see more and more these days (especially on social media sites) is the self portrait (or photo of a group of friends) taken with a camera held at arm’s length. You know the picture! The one where you can tell the person taking the picture isn’t quite sure what they are capturing, but they sure do look like they are having fun doing it!

Samsung TL205.JPGSamsung seems to have noticed the popularity of these types of images, and has developed four cameras that seem to be specifically marketed for this type of image (in addition to traditional types of images). These Samsung Point-and-Shoot cameras (models TL225, TL220, TL210, and TL205) have an LCD on both the front and back of the camera, which allows the user to compose their images while looking at the lens (via the front LCD).

No more hoping you are in the frame, or wondering if your friend is making faces next to you. You can now see exactly what you are getting before you take the photo.

This made me think about cell phones (the other device that is commonly used to take these types of images), and made me wonder when the cell phone manufacturers will start putting the camera lens on the front of the phone. Well I guess I can stop wondering since HTC just released the EVO cell phone for the Sprint wireless network, and this phone has a camera on the front as well as on the back of the phone.

Samsung TL225.JPGWhy does this matter at all? I can foresee a day when all cell phones have cameras on the front of the phone. This should allow the user to not only hear the person their speaking to, but also allow them to see that person while their talking.

I think I will take a trip to my local store to try out these cameras!
