Hey,
SanDisk recently announced a new storage device called the Memory Vault, and as the name implies it’s designed to protect your images as if they were locked up in a bank. As a photographer I can say that guarding against the loss of my photographs is at the top of my priorities, and this seemed like just the type of device that would be right up my alley.
The Memory Vault comes in two different storage capacities of eight gigabytes or sixteen gigabytes, and SanDisk claims that it will protect your data for up to 100 years. Obviously they have not been testing this device for 100 years, and have come to this conclusion based upon exhaustive scientific testing. SanDisk states that this length of protection is made possible by the quality of the product, and the fact that this flash based storage device uses their proprietary Chronolock technology.
Their claim of data protection is backed up by a limited lifetime warranty, and this actually got me thinking about other uses for the product. I could actually see this being used as secure storage for PDFs of my most important paperwork (i.e. Birth Certificate, Marriage Certificate, etc…), and for me I would store my most important photos on the device.
When I first got to test one out I was pleasantly surprised with the weight of what is obviously a very well constructed storage device. I think I will stick with multiple external hard drives to store my vast image library, but when it comes to the images and paperwork I can’t live without the SanDisk Memory Vault is most certainly a great option.
