Every Thanksgiving after we’ve gorged our faces with delicious food, my family likes to go see the latest blockbuster hit. I wasn’t all that thrilled at first, because when we started this recent tradition, we decided to go see Pitch Perfect. To be honest, I thought it looked a little gimmicky and I didn’t want to see it, but since spending time with my family outweighed this concern, I went along with it. To my surprise, I fell in love with the acapella world and the witty, quirky humor of the Barden Bellas (Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson). You can imagine then when Pitch Perfect 2 was announced, I was ecstatic!
Set ahead three years since we’ve last seen the Barden Bellas (Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson), the all-female group is showcasing their talent at a Lincoln Center performance for the president when it goes mortifyingly awry, causing a scandal that relieves them of all future singing obligations, and ultimately, their place at Barden University. In order to redeem themselves and show the world what they can do, the women must band together to win the world championships in Copenhagen, Denmark. Throw in some scene stealing cameos from YouTube personality, Flula, and acapella sensation, Pentatonix, and the movie is this year’s must see.
Depending where you live, Pitch Perfect 2 could still be in theatres, but for those of us not so lucky, it’s available for pre-order. It even comes with a CinemaNow code that allows you to watch it prior to its release on Tuesday, September 22nd! Having said this, I would highly recommend watching the first one before watching this hilarious sequel. While the style of the movie lends itself to those brand new to the aca-mazing world, the humor – though still funny to all – heavily relies on inside jokes from its predecessor, and you don’t want to miss any of the awesomeness that is the Barden Bellas.
