Hey Fellow Americans!
Oh, say can you see… all the great photo opportunities? That’s right the fourth of July is right around the corner. If your family is anything like mine you’ll be outdoors somewhere, enjoying the great weather, stuffing yourself with some awesome food, and hopefully capturing those memorable moments.
Are you going camping, going to fireworks in your local area, or are you on your way to a much more picturesque destination? So do you have the right camera to capture those special moments? If not, hopefully we can steer you in the right direction.
Does anyone remember disposable film cameras? I’m sure you do, and sometimes they are still used at wedding receptions. One main use of these cameras was to provide a disposable alternative to your expensive film camera when on vacation. It’s one thing to lose a disposable camera; it’s a whole other thing to drop you expensive SLR in a lake.
With the demise of film manufacturer’s needed to come up with a somewhat affordable alternative that could be taken safely on most vacations, and a few years back they succeed. Pretty much every manufacturer now has waterproof, shock resistant, and dust resistant models ranging in price. If you’re planning on going near water this Fourth of July these are a must have. They also are nice in very sandy environments, and if you’re as clumsy as I am being shock resistant is a nice feature.
I will fully admit that the above mentioned models will not have the capability of a DSLR, or Compact System Camera. If you are going to the French Riviera for the first and only time in your life, you will probably want to invest a camera that has the potential to take even better photos. In fact if I was going to The French Rivera I think I might finally have an excuse to purchase the Canon 5D Mark III I’ve been eyeing.
As I learned this last weekend have your smartphone available, and charge fully. I was late getting out the door to leave for Chicago, and in my haste I somehow forgot my camera system. As you can image I was distraught upon realizing this, but there was no going back.
I was stuck using my smartphone to take any photos I saw. I did get passable results, and if your goal is to merely capture the moment they work fine for the most part. It left me wondering where the world of photography is headed, but that’s another blog isn’t it?
One last thing; June 29 is National Camera Day. What better day to buy a camera? Regardless of what you do be safe, have fun, and take lots of photos!
