The slow cooker. Is there anything better for making great tasting easy to prepare meals that don’t take a lot of hands-on time? With the advent of the electric pressure cooker, there may be. And Gourmia has a wide range of pressure cooker options to fit almost any need.
The basic idea of a pressure cooker is that in a sealed environment steam is able to build up pressure, and that higher pressure allows the liquid in the cooker to get hotter and consequently cook faster. But modern electric pressure cookers can do so much more than that.
Maybe the most important thing to note is that these new electric pressure cookers are far less scary than those that you may be familiar with. With the old style pressure cookers you had to put them on a stovetop and monitor the pressure to make sure it didn’t get too hot. If the release valve for excess steam got blocked, the pressure cooker could end up exploding. Because the pressure in these electric pressure cookers is self-regulated they are truly set it and forget it machines.
Earlier in this article I mentioned slow cookers, and how an electric pressure cooker is even better. How can that be when slow cookers are already close to perfect? Well, to start, these electric pressure cookers also function as slow cookers. Just like your current slow cooker you can set up your dinner in the morning and it’ll be all ready by the end of the day. And, with a built in timer, you can set the cooker to start any time you want.
But what if you don’t have time in the morning to set everything up? What if you want a one pot meal but need it ready in short order? That’s where the pressure cooker function comes in. You can get a meal cooked in a pressure cooker in half the time, or less, than it takes to cook it on the stove top. And just like a slow cooker you can just throw everything in the pot, turn it on, and let it cook.
That doesn’t mean some extra prep work isn’t helpful, however. If your dish has onions or garlic in it there’s a sauté setting that you can use to release some extra flavor before adding the other ingredients. If you are cooking meat, this same setting can be used to sear it.
My favorite feature on my pressure cooker, however, is the rice cooking feature. I hate cooking rice on a stovetop. It always turns out just a little off. But with the electric pressure cooker all you have to do is add the right ratio of rice and water and your rice will turn out perfect every time. And don’t worry, that ratio will be right in the included instructions.
These cookers, depending on the model, have a range of other setting, from steam to soup to porridge to yogurt if you’re feeling very adventurous.
