Each year the our favorite brands gather at a Consumer Technology Association conference called CES in Las Vegas to share what they’ve been working on! The event is three days long, and with thousands of vendors it can be a lot of information to absorb. I’d be happy to share my favorites from the conference which include things to look forward to in the future, and some that’ll be available this year!
LG the pioneer of OLED announced a wallpaper thin TV last year out did themselves again by displaying a prototype TV that rolls down. This TV can physically change the display size to accommodate the different aspect ratios which is great if you’re watching a movie and get those black bars on sides.
Sony one of the largest names in home theater is making its move to be the brightest competitor with a TV that’s 8K with almost 10, 000 nits of light. A regular TV has between 250-300 nits. It’ll most likely be few years until this item hits the shelves as it’s currently a prototype too.
I can promise that laptops are getting lighter, VR is getting more options, and everything is getting smarter with Amazon’s Alexa or Google’s assistant.
With technology advances, and the arrival of Intel’s eighth-generation Core with RX Vega M graphics paired with NVIDIA’s smaller Max-Q graphics has made getting a powerful gaming laptop that’s light so much easier. Big hitters like HP, Lenovo, and Dell shared how much better their new line ups will be in the next year. Once we’ve decided which new laptops we’ll be carrying they’ll be added here!
Virtual reality is one of my favorite “new” technologies to learn about. I’m excited for Lenovo’s standalone VR headset Mirage Solo. It doesn’t rely on a smartphone, or gaming console to experience this fun technology. HTC’s Vive Pro was also a pretty big deal with its reveal at the conference as they shared the improved screen plus other advantages which will be offered as a headset-only upgrade to existing Vive users.
As I hinted at prior all your smart stuff is just getting smarter. Amazon didn't have an official presence as in a display this year, but their Alexa was everywhere. Google’s Assistant had a strong presence too. I think my favorite new SMART home item was the HiMirror Mini. It utilizes Alexa so you can give the mirror voice commands to analyze your skin, track your skincare goals plus records the products you use. This will be great for our friends that have skin sensitivity since you’ll be able to pinpoint which products don’t make you look, or feel your best. Also, you’ll be able to ask your mirror for the time, or weather so you can be on time with correct products to battle humidity later in the day.
You’re welcome to see which items we’re planning on carrying that were announced at CES right here! New items will be added to page as they're added to BestBuy.com. Which new CES products are you most excited for?
