According to Mr. Jobs, 2011 will be the year of the iPad 2. With all the new bells and whistles, I don’t think this is an overstatement. iPad 2 has an all-new design, is 33% thinner and is up to 15% lighter than its predecessor, plus it is available (from day one) in black and white. Mark your calendars as iPad 2 is available March 11th. Here is the list of new features:

Front and rear facing cameras – The rear camera is able to shoot 720p HD video, which you can edit into awesome movies using Apple’s iMovie App for the iPad 2. iMovie will be available on March 11th for purchase in the Apple app store. The front facing camera can be used to take some cool self portraits and now you can use the ever so popular Photo Booth (you know, the program on Macs that lets you take silly pictures with all those cool filters and effects!). Not to mention, FaceTime!, Apple’s video chatting software is on the iPad 2! You can FaceTime with your friends and family that have an iPad 2, iPhone 4, new iPod touch or Mac using a Wi-Fi connection.

Dual-core A5 chip – Multi-tasking will be smoother, and loading your favorite apps and websites will be up to twice as fast. Graphics performance will be up to 9x faster, which will make gaming on the iPad 2 even smoother than it already is! This is all thanks to the two powerful cores in the A5 chip.

Video mirroring – Have a big presentation at work? Want to share your photos with the whole family? Thanks to the new adapter, this is all possible! Everything you see and do on your iPad 2, including all your favorite apps, can be projected for everyone else to see on a HDTV. Whether you are using your iPad 2 in landscape or portrait mode, the image will also flip on the HDTV. All this in 1080p! I can see this being used by a lot of teachers in classrooms.

Gyroscope – Most apps in the app store take advantage of the three-axis gyroscope for gaming. I’m curious to see what developers will come up with for the iPad 2. With a gyroscope, the iPad 2 will basically be able to detect your every move. It won’t just measure when you flip the device from landscape to portrait; it will measure nearly every angle you move your iPad 2.

Smart Cover – The smart cover is this sweet magnetic “flap”, if you will, that attaches to the iPad 2 and nicely protects the screen while keeping it clean. It falls into place and auto adjusts to a perfectly snug fit. There’s some wicked cool technology behind this too! As soon as you flip the cover over the screen, it puts your iPad 2 into sleep mode and vice versa; when you uncover it, it wakes it up! It also has the ability to bend into a stand for easy typing and easy video watching. This truly stands up to its name!
