Store Availability and "Included Free Items"

I'll start this by establishing that I am a big fan of Best Buy. They are by far my favorite brick and mortar electronics retailer. I check the deals of the day on a daily basis, cause I know there is a decent chance I'll see something that catches my interest. I'll also add that I am an avid gamer. I love the gamer's club program. I think it is an essential service for any gamer, and it makes it clear which retailer I choose to buy any physical game.

With that said, the state of the video game section in my local store is far below my expectations. I'll often buy my games through the app and pick them up in the store. Ever since I moved to Charlottesville, VA, I have not once been able to get the "included items" they are said to come with. Just now, I had my Mass Effect Andromeda steel book cancelled cause they couldn't provide it. When I bought Gears of War 4, it was supposed to come with a copper mug. Not only was it unavailable, but the store's associates would either deny it was something I was supposed to receive (even after showing it on the item page and in my cart), or would provide no alternative solutions to receiving the item.

To some, this may not be an issue, but for me, as someone that thinks of gaming as something more than a means of passing time, it's disappointing. I love all of the little gaming knick-knacks I've accumulated over time. It's kind of a bummer that any time Best Buy advertises an item including a steel book, t-shirt, or other gift of some kind, I know I can completely disregard any possibility of receiving that item.

Not only that, but the selection of games available over time seems to be decreasing. You pay for a service like Gamer's Club, but you're ability to advantage of that membership is limited by your selection. I bought the membership cause I want to buy games. Provide the selection, I'll provide the sales. It doesn't help either that their video game area appears to be in constant reconstruction.

So basically, if Best Buy is going to claim that a purchase includes an item, they should inform the associates of these promotion, have the items available, or be able to provide means of receiving these items. And if they are going to sell their customers a service like Gamer's Club, they shouldn't limit their selection of games and diminish the value of that service.

Just some thoughts.

Welcome to the forums and thanks for being a valued GCU Member. I’m disheartened after reading about the multiple difficulties you’re run into at our Charlottesville location, and regret that our associates there have not always provided the level of service we expect. That said, I’ll be happy to address your concerns and offer my advice.


Going forward if you run into any gaming issues that your local store is unable to address or assist with please don’t hesitate to reach out to us here on our gaming boards.
