According to the Bethesda blog we were supposed to get the paper one in the box and a premium cloth one also.

Bethesda later pulled the clothe one and put a "premium" textured one in the box with very little press, if any, about it.

While the final blame should go on Bethesda, Best Buy did promise me this map. I talked with my local gaming Sup and he found a way to make it up to me.

I'm very curious now as to what it was the rep on the phone was talking about.  Since she made a case for he story that the maps werent sent to Bestbuy yet, and would be distributed to us as soon as they were received... does this mean I was LIED to by a Bestbuy rep?  Do customer service agents have a habit of making up stories to appease customers and get them off the phone??  OR is there actually a cloth map coming?

They probably lied. Most retailers offered this "preorder bonus" and from what I can tell they all sent out the same premium map that was already in the box.

Now I'm curious what that gaming rep did to make it up to you. I'm not so angry about that map, but if I can get something free out of it I can put up a convincing argument.

From everything I read Bethesda says the premium map (which never said WAS cloth but did state it was premium material that had the "feel" of burlap) is what is in the box.

Yeh that is shady but they could have gotten away with the "misinterpretation" if they wouldn't have said we would have gotten a paper map in box AND a premium map.

Oh and to the above poster. Yes on the making up stories. I worked CS for Verizon for 2 years and many of the CS reps made up stories to appease customers.

I did it also, but I did it because I didn't want to tell them or didn't want to explain the real reason. I did it merely as a time saver ( we were QAd often and had to hit certain times on "fixing" problems) ie instead of explains how a cable box worked and explains how our systems function taking 10 minutes to get to the end point of we need a tech to come out, I would just give a simple explanation and a story that wasn't what the whole truth was. It still ended in the same, but the customer didn't get the full back end explanation.

I did that because if I started to explain the real reason they have 50 questions on why and what etc.

I also saw many people that "hit their numbers" (as in got the person off the phone in 13 minutes or less) by just making up
Stories that weren't true. Don't know if the rep you talked to did this, was misinformed or he knows something we dont
