Purchased PS3 80 for my kids in December of 2007. Did not buy extended service plan at the time because I was already spending $500 and thought it should be fine if taken care of. Well, February 2008 sent in to Sony and go a new replacement. Apparently they had a lot of people having problems when they first came out. Got the new one in no time at all. One year warranty on that unit. Now on April 7th it is broken again and won't read discs. Sony will not do anything of course because it has been over a year. We know of several people that are also having the same kinds of problems with it over and over. My kids heard Sony was extending the warranty due to this but they tell us different on the phone. What kind of options do we have or am I just out my money and no system? My kids said hire a lawyer. Funny!

I would first contact Sony (again) by either e-mail or phone and try to speak to a supervisor or something. Explain that you already had a problem with a previous unit and that you feel Sony should stand behind the product. It may not get you anywhere but at least give it a try, also be respectful don't yell and scream or anything like that.
Also, search online to see if there is any resolution other people may have found for their systems. People are very creative when it comes to things like that.
Worse comes to worse buy another and buy a protection plan from wherever you buy it from.

Well, if the waranty is over, the least you can do is have it repaired by Sony itself. Surely with all th problems they are receiving, they have found the solution to it. Unfortunately for you buyers, you hvae suffered for that. Well jsut so your money wont go to complete waste.

This is what sucks about sony! I had the same problem with my PS1 and PS2 back in the day they would die every 3 months and sony would want more and more money to fix em! SONY DOESN"T STAND BEHIND ANYTHING!!! Microsoft repairs there breakdowns, and even has an affordable warranty 24 bucks a year! Plus they handle all the shipping! Although I finally got a PS3 and its the first thing sony that has lasted longer than 3 months, its a 40 giger though.
Sony is heartless on the broken system front, I spent hours on the phone trying to get someone to warranty my systems, it was useless! I hope you have better luck man!

Wow, that's really unfortunate. Not to rub this in or anything, just supporting sony here, but i won a ps3 in a contest for free when they first came out, and i had no issues with it, i would still have it to this day but it got stolen. So i got a new one, that i had to pay for
and then i had no problems with that either, but THAT ONE GOT STOLEN TOO! I hope you can get something sorted out, i just wanted to add my story in too.

Thanks for the info. We already sent it back in in November and paid the $149 once again to get it fixed. Adding it on our homeowner's policy for any future problems.
