I preordered the Hardened Edition of Modern Warfare 3 on the Playstation 3 back on September 3rd. I went last night to redeem my game. Now, I didn't have the original pre-order receipt for the game, so I went onto my Reward Zone account to print off a duplicate receipt. It was not showing up as me having preordered it. However, when I went to the Gamer's Club section of the Reward Zone, it said that I had preordered the game. I went to the store to hopefully get it all straightened out. At the Customer Service desk, he found the evidence of me preordering it, so he sent somebody back there to get my copy. The employee returned empty-handed, and stated that there was no copy for me. Apparently my name, along with those of other people, were not showing up as having preodered the game. They had before, but they weren't now (coincidentally, just as the Hardened Edition became sold out). In the end, they gave me the game free and just had me pay for the year of the Call of Duty Elite Founder status membership. I am glad that I received the game and the membership at a highly discounted price, but I find it very wrong that they "held a copy" for me after I preordered it 2 months ago, and all of a sudden didn't have it anymore. If this is happening to other people as well, there is a serious problem with either Best Buy or Activision. How can I get the Hardened Edition that I had pre-ordered and planned on getting? Honestly, I would really like to get the exclusive steelbook case and artwork that came with the Hardened Edition. That is the only reason I walked into the store two months ago to preorder this game. I would be more than happy to return my standard copy of Modern Warfare 3 to Best Buy, and I haven't even redeemed the code for the year of CoD: Elite membership yet. How will this be reolved? Lastly, I had preodered and purchased 4 games already for the promotion of "Pre-order and Buy 5 select game, get $100 in gift certificates."This would be the 5th and final game. Will this problem affect my status of having met the requirements for the gift certificates?

I agree, it's just wrong that we order something and instead are given less than what we order. That's not very good for customer satisfaction.

A similar experience happened with me, as I pre-ordered an Xbox 360 Hardened Edition. I showed up to pick it up and they had none. The CSR offered to sell me a vanilla copy and a points card to purchase the service at MSRP, I was not amused. She wasn't trying to be rude and snide, I guess that's the only solution that came to mind? Mentioning that it was apparently a big problem. So I will just stand in amazement as you were offered a free vanilla version for purchasing the service, as that is pretty generous.
As for me, after digging around in the cabinet, they did pull out a lone PS3 Hardened Edition that had been cancelled, so I did end up with a Hardened edition... not what I clearly pre-ordered... but it will work. I am still not 100% happy with the transaction, since when I pre-order something... I expect it to actually be there. I doubt we will have such a complete mis-step in the future as I hear MW3: HE was quite the debacle for best buy.

Maybe you should ask for a 20 dollar gift card for compensation.
A few months ago, everyone that pre-ordered Dark Souls and didn't get the Signature Edition were offered a 20 dollar gift card if they decide to keep the game. I said no. I was able to order it from another gaming store.
