Same problem here. I stopped back by my local store today because I thought they had just forgotten to give it to me, and they told me it should have been in the game - it wasn't. They then started looking and NONE of the copies they have include the book. The lady even told me she doesn't recall ever seeing any that had the book in them. I agree with the others saying this is unacceptable - it's bait & switch. And saying "while supplies last" doesn't cut it if my store never had any supplies in the first place. I passed up preordering this from other stores, some offering up to a $20 gift card as a bonus, because I wanted the book. And now I feel like I got shafted. This situation really needs to be addressed, and saying "oops" doesn't cut it for me.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for your comments about what's happened with the novella. I've been passing them along to our business teams so we can meet all your expectations when it comes to promotional bonuses. I encourage you to keep in mind that the book was available while supplies lasted and was not connected to preordering the game.
Thank you,

The preorder information has obviously been removed from BB's site, since the game is out, but the official Square-Enix press release lists the book as a "exclusive preorder incentive" :

Obviously it ws being advertised as a Best Buy exclusive bonus to drive up preorders at your store.

Again, it's all well and good to say this offer was "while supplies lasted", but that is NOT how it was or is currently being advertised. Both the print advertisement and, as of right this moment, the digital copy of the weekly circular say "with purchase of the Final Fantasy regular or collector's edition" with absolutely no mention of limited quanitities available. In fact, the only restriction listed on the web version is "Limit 5 of each title per customer. No dealers." As the situation stands, this is not what was promised and not what is being advertised, and it's not even being acknowledge as an error.
On a side note, I've also never heard of a "while supplies lasted" promotional bonus that was distributed randomly rather than in some ordered fashion.

It was my understanding that it was, yes, a Best Buy exclusive, but not attached to any preorder bonus incentive. It may have been incorrectly advertised on other sites.
I tried pulling up that link I had posted earlier, but I see it leads no where now and it has since been taken down from the website and should not be displayed. To recap, it the novella should've already been inside select packages of the game in both the standard and CE versions of the game and it did specify "while supplies lasted."
I wish I had some better answers for you guys, but please know that I appreciate your comments and will do my best to get the them into the right hands. It is never our intention to disappoint.
Thank you again,

The guy at the store looked at me like i was crazy when i asked for my preorder item. This is really dumb and someone either square enix or best buy needs to give us the preorder item that we preordered for.

Stop giving the same excuse. It was advertised as a preorder bonus on the best buy website and in-store. Best Buy is trying to cover their mistakes by stating that it was limited supply and not a preorder bonus. Thanks for giving me another reason to file with the BBB since you guys also failed to have my preorder when I went to pick it up. You clearly do not know anything about this situation except the bullsh*t that your boss tells you to tell people.

I understand that it was while supplies last but at the location we went to, they claimed that only the collectors edition recieved the novella. We went rather early in the morning and they had plenty of the novella in stock but they were only giving them out with the Collectors edition. The problem wasn't about them being out of the book, they just weren't giving them out with the regular edition.

Nahorodny- are you sure the novellas were being given out separately? Everything else I've seen and heard indicates they came pre-packaged with the games.
