BB's partnering process goes something like this:
1. BB partners with a company and launches the service in a few markets.
2. Assuming success, the service is rolled out nationally.
3. BB continues with their partnership for a while, all while the third party becomes more and more backlogged due to increasing demand.
4. BB buys out the third party and assimilates them.
This is based on observation.

Wow I can't believe this forum is still going on. I have tried everything short of downloading an ISO and using my key and nothing works.
These people must be fools. I guess they do not know how fast word can spread via the net and run them outta buisness.
I have nothing against BB and I actually just purchased a new Wii from them but I will never download anything else from these idiots. It is just 50.00 so I will take it as a learning experience and if I really want to play the game I will just go buy another copy from Wallyworld.
Thankx for trying...Fail

Yes I can only hope this post has stopped another person or hopefully people from even considering using BB's download partner - Digital River. They are horrible, they give you NO support and basically tell you that you are out of luck if you want your money back. So god forbid you have any issues downloading at all because they could care less, they have your money and aren't giving it back, nor will they help you. What a fantastic business model! Buyer Beware....
It'll be a long time before I walk into a Best Buy store again, nor will I ever deal with the Digital River thieves.

I would never recommend purchase of software via download. You always need a hard copy in case of hard drive failure or if you buy a new computer or have to reload your OS.
I love to use downloaded versions. I have for every Battle Field and even games like WoW. They are good because you can load them on any computer from anywhere and do not have to worry about using a disk. It is only now that I ran across a company that would not stand behind their product. I think I will link this forum to the Activision peeps and see what they have to say about it. They will more then likely do nothing about it but hey...worth a shot.

That is great Aaron to hear, but here is the problem. The game is now patched to 1.4 and they are getting ready to release patch 1.5. The problem is that if I have to wait a long time to get patches then what is the point of buying the game from your store. This is horrible customer service, and I realize that this is a digital river issue. However, I bought the game through BB's website, and to say the least I spent two days dealing with your and digital river's customer service and it was a horrible experice. I am telling everyone I know not to use this service and I have bought the game in hard copy to solve my problems. BestBuy has to do better then this and demand more accountability from Digital River. Other sites that sell DL games update them asap like direct2drive and steam. Never wait long for those patches to come out. What say you, and why can't your company send out a letter of apolgy with a refund for those who can't use this game. It is only the right thing to do.

Here lies the problem, Digital River does not provide any support. It's that simple...
They provide canned emails which basically tells you nothing, if you go to Activision they tell you to go to the place/download site you purchased the game from. You then go back to DR and get the same canned email responses, which equals no help at all. You request money back for product and they basically say you are out of luck...
As for the patch issues, I can only imagine how frustrating that is. Notice I say imagine as I still can not get any assitance from DR to download the game properly. Always great to take 50 bucks and just throw it away, since low and behold no refunds. Best Buy really needs to pick their partners better.

Hey everyone,
I realize that not being able to obtain the latest updates can certainly be frustrating. It’s important to remember, however, that digital downloads are not always able to use the same patches as retail copies of the same game. There are a number of reasons behind this, but it is ultimately up to the developer - in addition to the download site - to decide how to support any given title.
In this particular case, the v1.2 and v1.3 patches may have not been available for Digital River’s Call of Duty: World at War digital download version when the original poster created this thread. Since then those patches have become available through this page and are now included with every new CoD:5 download. As mentioned earlier you’ll need to do one of the following if you’ve been having difficulty obtaining updates:
1) Contact Digital River for troubleshooting support. Instructions on how to contact them online or by e-mail can be found here.
2) Contact the software manufacturer (Activision) for additional service. Activision can be reached by visiting their product support page or by calling their technical support hotline at (310)-255-2050.
Hope this helps you out.
The thing that really ticks my tock about this is Direct to Drive digital download copies work just fine with updates. Do not try and say it is the developers fault when another companies digital version works fine. I have been a programmer for years and this is not a good way to make them happy. I am also an eCommerce manager. Not to sound redundant but this just isn't the way for that either.
