I recently purchased a downloaded version of Call of Duty: World at War from Best Buy. I am unable to update the game and I get the error that I must get the update from the place of purchase because it is a downloaded version. I have found updates for the Direct2Drive downloadable version but they do not work for this version. Can someone please advise if they have ran into the same problem. I sat on the phone for over 30min on hold before I finally gave up with Best Buy customer service. I don't won't to lose anymore money on the game than I already have if at all possible.

It is a real bummer because not only am I missing a map and the bug fixes, I am also having trouble finding games because I am not on the latest version. If something can't be done then I guess I will just go buy a retail version. I guarantee it will not be from Best Buy and I even have a 50.00 gift card.

I would try calling your local BB and ask to speak to Media. They may have an answer to your problem.

I’m sorry to hear about your recent game troubles! I’m not quite sure why you would have run into such an excessive hold time for troubleshooting support, but I certainly do apologize if you found this to be the case. Neither BestBuy.com nor our Consumer Relations department are able to troubleshoot these types of issues, so I would strongly recommend trying one of these options if you’ve been having difficulty obtaining updates:

1) Contact Digital River (the partner company that hosts Best Buy’s software download services) for troubleshooting support. Instructions on how to contact them online or by e-mail can be found here.

2) Contact the software manufacturer (Activision) for additional service. Activision can be reached by visiting their product support page or by calling their technical support hotline at (310)-255-2050.

If you’re still not able to update the software after contacting both parties, please feel free to let me know via private message. You can send me one by clicking on my user name “Aaron-GS” next to this post, and choosing “Send this user a private message.”

Have you managed to get this resolved.  I purchased this game today from Best Buy downloads.  Installed it and there is a 1.2 patch available for the game.  I am  unable to update for the same reason as stated in the original post, and now Digital River does not even respond.  I am becoming quite iritated that I can't even patch a game that I purchased.  If anybody can provide some insight I would greatly appreciate it.

I've had this problem as well.

I contacted both Activision and Best Buy.

Activision told me that they could do nothing and that Best Buy and Digital River would have to supply me with the unique patch.

Best Buy's support team:

* Sent me the 1.7 patch for COD 4......well done.

* Then replied:

We apologize for any inconvenience, unforutnately, we do not have
patches for Call of Duty: World at War. Please contact patch support at
the contact listed below.

So I have really been left with nowhere to go, both sides are trying to push the issue off to someone else. I wish I had been told Best Buy don't provide patch updates, both Direct2Drive and Steam had their versions in a day or so. And due to the refund policy, I've really got nowhere to turn.

I found a temporary fix for the problem, if you already own a copy of the game you can legaly download a backup iso for it and reinstall with that, the BB digital version sucks but at least the cd key is real, then you have to find no cd crack updates.

I have never been a fan of downloadable games and software. There is just so many things that can go wrong. The download corrupts, your hard drive fails, you get spyware or a virus and have to reload windows, you need game patches and BB cannot provide them.
