Buying a game at midnight release without a preorder

Lets say i was the first person in line for the midnight release of MW2 at my local BestBuy...would I need to have a preorder to be able to buy it? I'm just wondering if it is mandatory for a midnight release.

You should be alright to get the game without a pre-order during the midnight launch. It's not mandatory (at least to my knowledge, since my store will be doing one for the first time) to have a pre-order in hand to enter the store for a midnight launch
