BestBuy Trade-in declined due to SKU?

I tried to return a game (Marrio + Rabbids switch version) but customer service said it doesn't show a listing in their machine therefore has no value. I found out my game's SKU number (5909500) is different than the one listed on tradein.bestbuy (6167291). Is there a reason for this? Is it because I bought the game on sale or used my GCU discount (20% off + 5$ welcome coupon). Have any else experience a similar situation?

Welcome to the forums and thanks for posting. It’s certainly odd to hear that our trade-in system would have a different SKU listed for this game than the one assigned to copies purchased new in box, so I’ll be happy to look into this for you.

 

I double checked the SKU’s you referenced, and can confirm that 5909500 should be correct for your game, however, 6167291 is what is listed in our Trade-In system. Upon further review, 6167291 appears to be the SKU for pre-owned copies for Mario + Rabbids. I suspect this is an error on our end, so I’m sending this up to one of our support teams to look into further. As soon as I hear back with an update I’ll follow up with you in this thread.

I think the main issue here is training. Some employees are really good and others struggle and take forever to process a trade. Some don't know the rules and make up thier own on the fly. Today I was denied a trade in because my game didn't have the case. Yet they sell games with generic printed cases in the back and have traded in games with out cases for years. Some training or a general FAQ employees can access about trades would go a long way

My support team got back to me this morning, and let me know that they’re working on getting this corrected. They said this should be updated sometime next week, so be sure to keep an eye on our Video Game Trade-In page for the SKU to be updated.
