What is the point of Gamers Club if I can’t trade in my games?

I have been a Gamers Club member for years. I buy all my video games from Best Buy and I trade in them once I finished playing to buy new ones.

I bought both Far Cry 5 and burnout paradise remastered for PS4 brand new for PS4. Why are both these titles not available for trade in for PS4? I see they are avaialable to trade in for XBox one. Why not PS4?

I have never ran into this issue before where I had to come into this forum to ask this question and seek an answer. It seems recently in 2018 you guys are leaving out many titles for trade ins especially for PS4. Is this intended or an oversight? If this continues I don’t see a reason for me to renew Gamers Club because I can’t afford to buy brand new games and not be able to trade them in. I am not getting value in spending money to renew Gamers Club.

Please add these titles for trade in, they are new games for 2018 and Far Cry 5 is an especially popular title.

Re: What is the point of Gamers Club if I can’t trade in my games?

Hi Yxy110 –

Welcome back to the forums and thanks for being a continued GCU Member. I’m sorry to see there’s some frustration and disappointment regarding our trade-in availability of a couple titles you own, but that you for taking the time to share your interest in us accepting these for trade-in.

Please know that there are many factors that decide if or when a title is added to our trade-in database, and which versions of a title we may be accepting at any given time. Due to these factors, what we accept for trade-in can change on a daily basis. Going forward, I recommend keeping an eye on our Video Game Trade-In page where you can check to see which titles we’re currently accepting, and what value they currently have. If you have any other questions or concerns, now or in the future, please don’t hesitate to post again.

Happy Gaming!

Re: What is the point of Gamers Club if I can’t trade in my games?

Hi,

To follow up with this post - and speaking directly to Far Cry 5 - it is extremely weird to not be able to trade in a single version of a game when your competitor in this field will take both versions of this game at this time. I won't speak for everyone, but as a long-standing GCU member, this is the most perplexing issue I have had with trade ever, and can speak from experience that up until recently, I have never had a problem with trading in games at Best Buy. It is frustrating to have to search daily to see if you will even take in a game that is now 2 months post-launch (on top of only seeing the Xbox One version as eligible for just under half of that time).

In the past, this was not even a thing that Best Buy would not take in a single version of a game, so to see this as an issue now is cause for skepticism.

Unless the title is far outside of relevance/resale value, this answer doesn't make any sense. Please enter these titles into your system.

Thank you.

Just to chime in, over time games depreciate so trading in early on is a good idea.

Exactly...this hasn't been an issue until this year. I never looked up a game and see only Xbox One available to trade in but not PS4. It makes no sense for popular titles such as Far Cry 5 and God of War, to not be allowed to trade in? What is the point of Gamers Club? Also PS4 historically sells double the units of Xbox One, there is no way these games are not in demand.

I had to trade in Burnout paradise to Gamestop, because it will be practically worthless a few months from now. Best buy, you guys are really making me rethink renewing Gamers Club if this continues. I am willing to bet it's an intern somewhere setting these trade in games, and completely forgot to put in the PS4 titles.

This has only happened recently but are you aware GCU has ended? At this point trade ins are out of the question. This new happened on May 19. For us posting early, we were in the dark.

They don't even sell pre-owned titles in store at this point. They actually pulled most of the remaining stock from their stores a while ago while giving an evasive answer as to when or IF they would ever restock them. Not to mention even when they do list a trade value it's typically 20% LOWER than their closest competitor for trade-ins. At least the competitor does guaranteed value and other promotions to ADD value even if it's lower to start.
