Question about 10% Customer Appreciation Coupon Terms

So yesterday I received a coupon in my e-mail for Card Member Appreciation Month.  It said if I used my Best Buy Visa, I would receive 10 percent off my first purchase.  I needed to purchase some appliances and decided it would be a good time with the extra 10 percent off.  Purchased a refrigerator, washer, dryer, chest freezer, and over the range microwave. The total came to a little over $3000 before any coupons.  Now when I went to check out with my Best Buy card, I was told that if I used the coupon, it was only a credit I would get back if I paid back the entire balance within 30 days.  I didn't see that on my coupon and I just looked at it again.  Anyway, $3000 is a lot to pay off in just one month, so I didn't use the coupon.  However, the sales associate was kind enough to take off 10 percent from the cost of the refrigerator.  At this point, I'm just trying to understand what the deal is with the coupon?  Was this something in really fine print?  If so, maybe this is something you would want to make more visible to people receiving the coupon.  The Best Buy I went to is like an hour drive, so it was a fairly long drive over a coupon I couldn't even use.  The coupon also stated it was in-store only, so I couldn't have found this out if I had chosen to order online.

Hi there JMBauer74,

It's wonderful to hear you received an offer to earn 10% back on a purchase! I'm sure you were incredibly excited to apply this coupon to your appliance purchase, and were caught off guard to be advised you would have to pay the full amount off on your credit card in order to receive this offer.

To my knowledge, this is not the case as when you pay your balance off would be between you and Citibank, the issuer of your My Best Buy credit card account. With that said, please keep in mind that we would not be able to apply this coupon to your purchase after it has been made, so the transaction would have to be completely reprocessed to apply it. I apologize if you were provided any inaccurate information that led to you not utilizing your coupon on this purchase and any inconvenience that this may cause you.

If you have any other questions, please let me know.

Regards,

Re: Question about 10% Customer Appreciation Coupon Terms

Okay, so who do I need to talk to so the transaction can be reprocessed?  I gave the coupon to the sales associate when I was purchasing the appliances.  He did both the delivery scheduling and the checkout at the register.  The store is about an hour from me, so I would rather avoid going back there if possible.  I still have the coupon since I couldn't use it.  It sounds like it might be a pain to redo everything since we had to schedule delivery and installation on the items from the order.

Hello JMBauer74,

Unfortunately, you would need to revisit the store with the coupon to have this reprocessed. I apologize for any additional frustration that this may cause you.

Sincerely,

Okay, but I can just cancel the order the phone then?  Seems like less hassle than spending 2-3 hours to drives there, change an order, and drive back. I don't have the items yet, since I had installation included with them.

Hi there JMBauer74,

If you wish to cancel the purchase entirely, I would encourage you to contact the store over the phone to see if they have any options to present you.

Re: Question about 10% Customer Appreciation Coupon Terms

I understand I can contact the store, but I just wanted to find out if I can just cancel the order over the phone.  It's not just because of the coupon, but a lot of the order was made with the understanding that the coupon couldn't be used.  This includes the financing options.  When I made the purchase, I just wanted to get the total, add the 10 percent discount, and pay off the bill in a few months or so, and avoid paying any interest if possible.  I am fine with sticking by Best Buy on the purchase, but there are other stores that will honor the same coupon with their no interest financing terms, and they are much closer to my location.  I realize it was probably unintentional, but still it makes it difficult when there is misinformation.
