My Best Buy Account - Odd Issues

I have some odd issues with my Best Buy Elite account.

When I leave reviews, the nickname is "Jessica". That's my Wife, but her and I have separate accounts.

I NEVER receive communications that my wife often receives on her account. I never get the $5 myster bonus, I never get the sale offers, I never get anything. I've verified my communication preferences tons of times, never works. I also didn't receive the annual 10% off birthday coupon that she's received a few years in a row.

Is there something that can be reviewed internally to make sure my account is straightened out and setup correctly? I'd also like to get the nickname sorted out and to make sure there is no other weirdness with the account.

Thanks!

Re: My Best Buy Account - Odd Issues

Good morning mbaran,

Thank you for your patience during our busiest time of the year.  We are playing a bit of catch-up in multiple areas of the forum.

There is no guarantee when it comes to promotional emails, as there are too many factors outside of our control that may prevent delivery.  Your chances of receiving those types of emails should be as high as your wife's if your email address is up-to-date, your accounts (BestBuy.com and My Best Buy™) are linked, and you are opted in to receive emails from Best Buy.  I looked over your account using the email address that you registered with the forum and did not find a reason as to why you would not receive promotional emails.  You may want to consider adding "BestBuyInfo@emailinfo.bestbuy.com" to your email contact list and double checking that your email provider does not have any spam filters in place that may prevent you from receiving certain emails.

As far as program bonus offers, such as Mystery Certificates or birthday bonus coupons.  Those offers are usually sent to a random selection of active members.  The chances a member does not receive a bonus offer every time one is available is 50/50.  I have been a member of the program going on 10 years and have received a birthday bonus maybe twice while never having received a Mystery Certificate.  It is really just luck of the draw and I have never really been that lucky.  Again, the best way to ensure your chances are as high as every other members when it comes to receiving program related bonus offers in the future is by making sure the three variables I mentioned above are in place.  I would strongly suggest adding the Best Buy email address to your list of contacts.

While you can receive bonus points by having a product review published on BestBuy.com, the nickname displayed when you submit a product review would be separate from your My Best Buy™ program account.  It would have more to do with your BestBuy.com account.  If your wife's name is displayed then that may have been the first name entered when a product review was submitted from your account because there is no way to chance the nickname online.  I will need to do a bit more digging into if and how your nickname can be changed.  I will send you a private message once I have an update. To read your private messages, you will first want to login to the forum and then click on the little yellow envelope icon that is located at the very top of the page.

I hope that you enjoy the rest of your day!

Re: My Best Buy Account - Odd Issues

Any word, then, on getting the Nickname changed?

I have a similar need to change my Nickname because I didn't understand (nor was it indicated) that the nickname would be permanent after that point.

The problem for me was that I thought I had already provided a review before, so when the Nickname field was open to be filled in, I supposed that you're supposed to set the nickname for each and every review - I figured I provided a nickname on my previous reviews and needed to do so on this review as well. It turns out I hadn't provided a review previously, and that was my first and only chance to set my Nickname.

The problem there was that there's no indication that the Nickname you're entering on your first review is going to be your Nickname henceforth and forever.

SO, I propose two options.

  • Allow the ability to change our Nickname.
  • Add text right next to the Nickname that says something along the lines of,"This will be your Nickname for any and all future reviews. It is permanent and cannot be changed."

Re: My Best Buy Account - Odd Issues

Hi only1DarkKnight,

Welcome to the Best Buy forum!

I am not going to be able to discuss the details or outcome of another member's issue.  Without creating a brand new BestBuy.com account, you will be unable to change your nickname for product reviews.  I cannot even change a member's nickname as it is a completely different process.  I would suggest posting your propositions/suggestions to the IdeaX section of the forum so that other members can cast their vote if they agree.  If your idea were to get enough votes then it would be passed up the chain of command for proper review.  Please feel free to send me a private message if you have any questions about your My Best Buy™ account, by clicking on the blue button in my signature, and I will see what I can do to help.

Thank you for connecting with us and for being a My Best Buy™ member.
