Xbox 360 Cloud Saves

I've got a buddy who comes over every week to play video games and, up until recently, he was just storing his progress under his own profile on my Xbox 360's hard drive.  We've been playing a lot of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Survival Mode, which is perfect for couch co-op by the way (I highly recommend it) but he has always been bummed that he couldn't easily carry his progress over from his own 360.  We also stopped bothering with the "recover gamertag" approach because it was a hassle and it made us wait too long before we could start shooting stuff.

Then we discovered Cloud.  All he has to do now is make sure he is saving his MW3 data to the Cloud on his 360 and then select Cloud as his data source on my 360 using his Xbox Live account and voila!  Save data continuity bliss.  Commence Survival Mode chaos.

Is anyone else digging the new Xbox 360 Cloud feature?

Re: Xbox 360 Cloud Saves

What's up with this cloud thing? I've been wondering what it means. Every time I play games it says I have like 500 MB of space for cloud. Is that something that comes standard now with an XBL gold subscription? I think it would be really cool since it literally takes 45 minutes to recover my tag.

Do you pay for more space?

It's free. It gives you a cloud based storage so you can use them anywhere.

Re: Xbox 360 Cloud Saves

Yeah, it's available to all Xbox Live Gold members.  I believe it is just set to 500 MB right now.  I haven't seen any options to purchase more storage space but I didn't go digging so it could be there.

Re: Xbox 360 Cloud Saves

We love it as we have an Xbox 360 upstairs and downstairs, and this allows my family to play on either console without worry of losing their progress. It is fantastic imo!

Re: Xbox 360 Cloud Saves

Xbox started to do that in July 2011. The PS3 for Playstation Plus subscribers have had that since March of 2011. The space size is only 150 MB, which works out well. You can also set automatic updates to the information you save online to keep it current with the files you have on the hard drive.

I did notice a strange feature though on a newer game. UFC 3 for the PS3 would had a time delay in re-downloading files of 24 hours once it was uploaded, which was weird. I wanted to move save data from the downstairs PS3 to the upstairs PS3, but this 24 hour delay wouldn't work for me.

Not sure the reason why or is this something new for newer games, but still I do not know why they would have a time restriction on the download.

Re: Xbox 360 Cloud Saves

Hey gpete13!  Welcome to the boards!

It's good to have someone who games on PS3 primarily joining the conversation.  We admittedly haven't had much chatter surrounding PS3 or Wii recently so I really appreciate your chiming in.  Although I do have a PS3, I don't have a PlayStation Plus membership and I had forgotten that they had already integrated Cloud saves.  Good call out!

You would think that 24 hour delay would be something Sony could work around.  To be realistic, the only time I would think to even use a Cloud save feature is right before I would be going to a buddy's house or, like you said, transferring saves between two systems in the same household so that 24-hour delay would defeat the purpose.

Looking forward to more of your posts!
