Hey gsmyth,

Like what Starflyer59 said, in smaller screens there's not much difference.  In larger screens the more dots per inch does become more noticeable.

That being said, I personally saw the difference between 480p and a 1080i, it quite nearly brought tears of geeky joy to our eyes how awesome the picture was compared to before.
