I bought my son a Wii just  he basic package for $249.  What else do I need to purchase for extra players and such?

You only need the remote to play the game that is included. Additional remotes are needed for more players.

Additionally, some games require the nunchuk adapter to play the game.

These are sold on the Best Buy site for $39.99 a piece.

The other piece you will need to play other games in the future is here: Nintendo Wii Nunchuk Controller

These are selling for $19.99 and again is needed for a majority of the games.

Can I purchase wireless controllers? and what about recharging for the wireless stuff?

The Wii Remote is a Wireless Controller. They run off batteries.  However, Best Buy sells the Nyko Wii Remote Control Rechargable Battery Pack and Charging Station here.

Its $32.99 and if you have a household that plays games all the time, I highly reccomend this. (I have an XBOX 360 and cant do without a rechargable )
