TV for Xbox One: 60hz vs 120hz

Hello,

I am planning to buy a new tv for when I get an xbox one. My question is, should i buy a 60hz tv or a 120 hz tv? I have heard that 120hz can cause input lag on games. I know that games on the X1 can only go up to 60 hz, so would it be wise to even get a 120 hz? I will watch tv on it, but I will mostly use it for gaming. Thanks! (Planning on spending around $400-475 for a 40-42 inch, 1080p).

Re: TV for Xbox One: 60hz vs 120hz

IF there is an issue it is probably the QUALITY of the TV and whoever said that is blaming it on the 120 hz

I have not observed any issues with my Xbox 360 on my TV.

However to play it safe perhaps consider the

Samsung - 40" Class

  • Model: UN40EH5000FXZA
  • SKU: 5012276

Re: TV for Xbox One: 60hz vs 120hz

Dont get caught up on the Hz. there is more to a TV then just the Hz. Rating. Input lag is caused by the image processor in the TV itself.

Take for instance my 3D plasma it has a refresh of 600hz but I have no noticable game lag on it. My LG 240hz 3D tv has HORRIBLE lag unless you turn game mode on. What that does it reduces the amount of image processing the tv does. Such as motion smoothing, upscaling, etc.

A quality TV will ultimately be better then a cheap off the wall brand as it will have better components and will reduce any input lag that you may experience and you could also lower any lag further by making sure its on game mode.

Re: TV for Xbox One: 60hz vs 120hz

personally I would go Vizio over Samsung. Samsung quality and customer service has been pretty shady over the past few years.

I have a couple of Vizio TV's that are not my primary sets but they are wonderful sets and one is going on 5 years old and hasn't had a single problem.

If you decide on a model you can type the model number in google and search the model number along with the term Input Lag and see what comes up. There are a couple of large AV forums that members post the input lag numbers for various TV sets up. They test it by hooking a laptop up to the TV by HDMI and with a clock running you can see the delay in time between laptop and TV set.
