Only the older models. The ones currently selling in stores have no PS2 support at all. All PS3 consoles have PS1 compatibility.

You can just search for PS3 and go to the Wiki page and it tells you all the info on all of the PS3's. I believe the launch 20 and 80gb PS3's are the best in terms of backwards compatibility.

Not the 80gb PS3's your best 2 for PS2 playing was the original 20 and 60gb models. The second 60gb model and first 80gb model dropped hardware compatibility and went with partially software based emulation. I personaly prefer 100% hardware emulation as opposed to even partial software emulation. But if anyone wishes to find the original and 2nd gen PS3's your only option will be auction websites as those models are no longer made and no longer sold through mass retailers like Best Buy.

I think they are ugly and crippled.
I by far and away prefer the old Piano Black Finish compared to their new charcoal. It just looks cheap! That aside they are just fine and most people would not notice the missing features. As Sony has released each generation they have slowly cut down on features the PS3 originally offered. (4 USB ports to 2, No Card Readers, From Hardware PS2 Emulation to Partially software emulation to NONE at all, No longer able to install 3rd party OS like Linux). And another thing that annoys me is Sony went back to using their power bricks. so if yours ever goes bad it wont be a 5 dollar fix at a local computer store since the piano black versions used a basic computer power cable.

What power brick? Unless it's built iinto the PS3 then I'm missing it lol.

i would agree on that completely

I said brick but i meant cord. While you can get a replacement for it from various stores for 9.99. a standard PC plug is far more common and easier to find as 95% of all stores that deal with computers will have them. And some stores sell them for just a few bucks. Only a handful of stores will actually carry a replacement cord for the PS3 slim, BB, GS, EBG to name a few may stock them otherwise you will have to order them.
