I am looking into purchasing the ps3 to act mostly as a blu-ray player and I won't mind playing games on it either. I just have one question, is the ps3 as capable or superior to the most sophisticated blu-ray players on the market? I want the ps3 but if i am going to be missing out on important features that other blu-rays have, then I would rather just buy another top of the line blu ray player instead. As far as i can tell, other than having to buy a remote separately, the ps3 is similar to the top of the line blu rays on the market. Is there anything that i have failed to realize which will give my ps3 a handicap over the top of the line blu-ray players and is the picture and audio quality also comprable to standalone blu-ray players?
Thanx.

I'm not sure now but before the latest Panasonic standalone BD player came out, CNET said PS3 was the best BD player cos it always updates itself to the latest firmware (providing you connect it to a home network obviously) and it requires no extra purchase of flash memory as PS3 has hard drive and the player itself is good. Why not pay extra for the ability to play games, store pics/vids/music,etc, much more functionality. It is a perfectly capable DVD & BD player, I've had the remote for ages and I've not even opened it as I use the wireless controller to control playback.
