I just bought a set of wired headphones {removed per forum guidelines} for my PS3 a few days ago but I haven't gotten a headphone amplifier yet. On Amazon, there is a headphone amp that has volume control built in and it's relatively cheap.{removed per forum guidelines} Would this get me audio through my tv for my ps3 (and 360)? Also, I'm using my tv's av inputs to convert them into a headphone jack for my tv. If i change the setting on my ps3, I can still use HDMI for video, correct? I really don't know too much about audio so any help or advice is appreciated.

Hi GaminFanatic,
I believe the best way to send audio to headphones from your PS3 would be to use a receiver. The way I do it is send the PS3 audio to the receiver via a digital optical cable and then connect my headphones to the receiver. You might be able to pull this off by taking the audio output from your TV but I'm not sure if an amplifier would fix your problem.

Also remember that the PS3 lets you out put audio to two outputs
HDMI/Componet, Optical/Compoent, Optical/HDMI
This may make it easier for you when setting up your sound setup![]()

The best sound would come from an amp with dolby surround since a receiver's audio jack is only stereo sound. Turtle Beach sells a wired amp dss2 or you can go wireless with an Astro mix amp 5.8 which are harder to find but you can get them on their web site. You will want to run an optical cable directly from the PS3/Xbox to the amp for the best sound. Or you can run an optical cable from the receiver to the amp if your receiver has an optical out.

Basically, I just need the easiest and cheapest way to get audio to my headphones from my PS3. I realize I won't get the best audio by being cheap but cost is the deciding factor right now. A headphone amplifier seems like it would be the best option, since I don't have a receiver for my tv and don't have the money to get one right now. I would like to get one in the future though. Can someone confirm for me that a headphone amp will get audio from my PS3 to headphones? I've had some people say it will work with an amp and some people say I need a receiver. Also, if it does work, which cables would be easiest to use? Could I connect a female rca-female 3.5 mm adapter to my PS3's av cables and plug my headphones into this?

Cheapest would be to run the AV cables from the PS3 to the TV. Then plug an RCA to 3.5mm adater cable to the audio out plugs on the back of the TV. Plug your headset into the 3.5mm adapter. This is the cheapest solution and will give you 2channel stero sound. I did this when my daughter was born when I wanted to watch TV in my bedroom with the daughter sleeping on me. Not the best audio but will give you sound as long as the headset uses a 3.5mm plug. The DSS2 from Turtle Beach would give you surround sound which is recomended if you play games like Call of Duty and Battlefield. Google DSS2.
