wireless internet

 i live in place that offers free wifi . the problem is that I'm so far for the access point that my wireless singal is only 8%. does anyone know how i can boost it . can not add anything or device that providing internet.  any help greatly appreciated

What kind of device are you connecting from?

 

What kind of adapter are you using?

 

Consider purchasing a new adapter with a stronger antenna that will have a better chance at picking up the signal.

 

There is nothing you can do, on the access point side, to boost the signal since it's not yours.

Chances are your Wireless built in is at least B/G which is acceptable for most situations however distance is your issue and you will want a Wireless N USB adapter to get the signal strength.

An N adapter will not imporve reception in a marginal signal area if the original signal is B/G only.  The adaptive antenna technology is not really effective with older non-N transmitters; in order for the adaptive technology to be effective, both the transmitter and the receiver must have N.
