we are wanting to buy 2 new desktops .and want to see what u recomend is the best. we surf and do music, videos and picturs and play alot of the online games. we are wanting something that would be fast and a very good and reliable computer and hopefully not to expensive. we have not upgraded our computers in about 7 years and they are so slow. that is why we are looking into buying new ones thank you

If you are doing all that and don't want to upgrade every you might want to get something with a little power to is.  I would Probably recommend something with a quad core processor and at least 6 GB of RAM.  It might also be bennifical to get something with a dedicated graphics card and a larg hard drive.  That being said something like the Gateway DX4300-11 or the HP p6230y would be fine, or if you really want something with extra power the HP Elite e9220y might serve you better.

what sort of online games do you play? not to detract from the idea of getting a desktop computer, but for what you do, a different form factor like a laptop may be an interesting route to evaluate.

My opinion is don't get a laptop unless you have to. You end up paying more money for less power and they are not very upgradable. Look at the posts on this website and others asking about laptop performance and how to boost it. Laptops are great if you need one because they are portable. But if you don't have to have one go with a desktop. Take the extra money you would have spent on the laptop and have one custom built for you.

By online games, do you mean web-based flash games, or stuff like 3D games (WoW, Aion, first person shooters, etc.)?

If 3D you'll want a system with a good graphics card.
