I have a HP pavilion  with 6GB  (runs Win7) ...how many pics and stored music will this hold?   I want to save many of my pics and wonder if I should purchase another computer just to save them????

You should have a powerhouse computer! If you look on the front or side of your tower on your HP computer you should see how many GB (GIGABYTES) your computer has a storage capacity of.

Use this. It's cheaper and has a whole 1TB of space. You literally just plug it into your existing computer.

An external hard drive would definitely be a better option if you just need more space to save stuff, but more than likely you already have enough hard drive space to store them. The 6GB you were referring to is likely how much memory (RAM) you have -- this is not the same as how much storage space you have to keep files in.

Alos, storing photos on a hard drive is not advisable as the only storage solution.  *ALL* hard drives will fail.  You should also be backing up (making copies) of your photos to either CD or DVD, and you should also store a copy of that disc off site, in cast the house you are in burns.  If you store you photos only on a single hard drive, and that hard drive fails, it can be *VERY* expensive to recover the photos, and there is the chance that they may not be retirevable at all.  Back up to multiple sources, and at least one of those sources needs to be off site.

In my case, my primary storage location is a RAID array (immune to single-drive failures but not fires/disasters/viruses).

Secondary storage is my SmugMug account, which backs up all uploaded photos to multiple locations.
