toshiba satellite c655 ram upgrade

I bought a toshiba satellite c655-s5082 last year . It has windows 7 64bit. the documentation shows that i can only put up to 4gb ram total. but the other day i bought a 4gb stick and installed it and also left the 2gb stick in that it came with. To my surprise it reccognized all 6gb even though it says only 4gb max in the manual. My question is will this harm my system or is this just a mistake in the documentation? I was under the impression that if you had a 64bit system that you could go past the 4gb threshold? and ideas? thanks tom

Re: toshiba satellite c655 ram upgrade

You are correct. If you have the 64bit version of windows it will show all 6GB. It won't harm your system It best to run matched pairs in most newer computers, but it won't hurt anything.
