Re: employees

THAT'S AWESOME that you got great help in finding a product! It's always a nice feeling to know that customers appreciate it when we give them good service. Believe me, I always feel good about myself and am motivated to do even better when I find that I was complimented in a survey or to a manager. :smileyhappy:

Re: employees

[ Edited ]

While I have no issues with Best Buy employees, I despise Geek Squad (for a couple of reasons).

1. They charge WAY too much for simple computer checkups

2. Most of them are snakes and make you pay way too much for what you actually need

3. $50 to install RAM. Really?

I purchased RAM from them (the RAM in my PC died and I needed 2 sticks immediately). I installed the RAM myself (right in front of them) and I kindly asked to use one of their screw drivers. They wouldn't let me use the screw driver because I didn't pay the $50 charge. How ridiculous is that?

Re: employees

While as an employee I cannot comment on prices, I can add a little information as to why services cost as much as they do.

For instance, because you opened your computer, you have now voided your return policy as well as Manufactors Warrenty because you are not certified by the computer's manufactor, Best Buy, and the GeekSquad are.  so now, if you try getting service on the computer from the Manufactor, they will decline you, or make you pay.

Best Buy employees and GeekSquad Employee's (Anyone affiliated with Best Buy) are not on commission, so they could really care less if you bought something or not, because their paycheck will not see any difference if you were to get it or not.  They are simply there to help you out.

My opinions are mine, and mine alone.

Re: employees

I would be curious to know if that is true about "voiding the warranty"  I seem to remember that that is not true, at least as far as the manufacturer warranty goes.  It might be a policy of Best Buy however the state's warranty laws come into play.  Warranties cover manufacturing defects not butter finger customers.  Contrary to what I read everywhere about what a PITA it is to return anything to Best Buy I have done it twice on Power Supplies which I had opened and they could have easly said "no way"    No issues.

Re: employees

it doesn't void the warranty on the WHOLE computer. just voided the warranty on the part you install on. say if you install ram yourself, now manufacture will on cover EVERYTHING but the ram.

Re: employees

I, too, am curious at the outrageous prices I see quoted on here for Geek Squad service.  As for the manufacturers warranty, that should really be determined on a case by case basis.  If it is under warranty, you shouldn't have any issues.  If you are out of warranty...crack that case and install your own ram!  It's as easy as falling off a log!  I sure wouldn't pay someone $30 to do it when it literally takes the time to unscrew the case, snap out the old, snap in the new, screw the case shut.  $30?  Geeze!

Re: employees

it's 40 btw. not 50.

it's just like why car dealer ship charges you $150 for oil change when u just get under neath the car, un screw something to leak old oil, go on the top and change in new oil. it's just how business works.

you don't expect a company to charge $10 for ram install, $15 for software install. that's how a company go out of business.

some people don't know well enough to even mess with their computer.

besides if u have geek squad install your stuff for you at least the part will be covered by the warranty, as oppose u install it urself and oops, there goes your whole computer's warranty. which if something fails, u'll easily have to pay for a new computer.
