You will have to log in to the administrator account on your machine and change permissions for your account. If this is your home computer, you should have no problem. If it is a work computer, the admin has disabled that function for a reason, and you should not attempt to change it.

You will have to log in to the admin account at start up. There is no other way...the admin account is the only one that can make changes to the Group Policy Editor.

There really isn't another option for you. You have to log in to your admin account at start up, and change the permissions on your account, then log off and log back in to your account.

but the unusal thing is that it says my account type is administrator and not a standard account.

In some instances in Vista and 7, under Start Search type in CMD, and when it pops up right click and select run as administrator.
