First, my apologies if I'm posting in the wrong forum....
I have inherited a Logitech mouse/charging base MX700. The person that has been using it just used regular AA batteries in it and never recharged it. I'd like to use rechargable batteries. The info I've found said that I should use only NiMH battereis with 1500-2300mAh. The only batteries I've found are 2500mAh. Does it matter? Will I blow something up or cause a fire etc if I use the alternate batteries.
Thanks.

No; so long as you use NIMH batteries, it'll work fine. Heck, you could likely use NiCD batteries as well(they're the same voltage, and the charger is simply a resistor... nothing fancy) without harm.
Putting Alkaline batteries in should work also, but it won't charge(much), so you'd be using them as a one-shot deal. Might be handy to know for when you're on-the-road etc.
You *don't* want to put Lithium/Li-on batteries in it, even if it's the same shape - these have a much higher voltage, and will probably fry it.

Nope, nothing will fry it. As someone else said, even NiCds will work, but since these have very low capacity (probably around 800-1000 mAh) they won't last long.
2500 mAh just means it has higher capacity and will last longer.
Depending on your usage patterns, you might want to look into ultra low self discharge (aka "pre-charged" aka "hybrid") NiMH batteries. These trade off capacity (usually they are 2000-2100 mAh) in exchange for discharging more slowly when not used. Depending on how long the mouse goes between charges, ULSD may be beneficial to you even though the total capacity is lower.

Edit: I forgot to mention this, but when selecting NiMH batteries, it's also important to select a good charger. You want something with fully independent charging circuits for each cell.
I would recommend either the MaHa MH-C9000 or the LaCrosse BC-700 - these are regarded as two of the best NiMH chargers on the market.
