So I popped into my local BB store to ask what (if any) pre-order process there would be for the new iPad.  Heres what I was told.

There aren't going to be any 'pre-orders' in the typical sense of the term.  They will be getting a batch of iPads in for next Fridays on-sale date. If you want one, you'll have to get in line and wait for it. After all those initial units are sold out then they will start doing a 'pre-order' process for the next batch that come in. 

That sounds more like a waiting list to me and not a pre-order.

That is very similar to the procedues followed at my store when I worked there. You will have a pre-order though, and whenever Apple decides to ship the next batch (solely in their power when that happens) you can stop in and pick it up. It'll be reserved for you. I don't know why Best Buy is so shy about it, but Apple is master and commander of their product. We never knew when OR how many were coming in. Just their way of doing business.
