Network extender

I tried to purchase a router and was sold a network extender. I was able to set it up as a wireless access point. It seemed to work pretty good but now we are having trouble keeping connected to the internet. Is this because it is not an actual router and being used as an access point? Would a router be better?

Re: Network extender

hey Kimberx,

Thanks for posting this great question!

The wifi range extender is a great idea if you just need wifi in a separate part of the house where the router/modem does not reach. To solve the problem you are having, I do recommend a router. This is one of the best ways to get better signal in the home as well as having multiple bands to connect with.

You may be having the connection problem because the extender acts as a relay for your connection. If everyone is connected to the same wifi and it is all being relayed through the extender, it may cause some connection issues.

There are many great options for routers here or head into one of our great stores and speak with a specialist for specific needs. Thank you again for giving me the opportunity to answer this for you and feel free to ask any further questions you might have. Welcome to the community!
