Memory upgrade question

Hi I have an ASUS eee pc 900.

Specs: 900 Mhz

           512 MB RAM

          8 GB SSD

          XP version

It is the purlpe one sold by Target.

I am wanting to change the memory out to 2 GB. I have heard and seen conflicting info on this. I have read that the memory I need is Kingston Technology-2gb PC2-5300 DDR2 is what I need. Howeve, some people said this does not work. They say I mayneed to upgrade the BIOS. I am not sure how to check the BIOS I have.

Any opinions or experience? If I bring my netbook in can we check it right in the store?

Re: Memory upgrade question

Thank you for your help. I ended up going directly to Kingstons site thanks to your post. I did not think of that before

I would have actually purchased the wrong memory according to the memory look up. I order directly through them.

Re: Memory upgrade question

Let me know how that works for you. I put 2GB in the 900HD I had, and had nothing but issues with it. I returned the netbook, but I'm still curious.

Re: Memory upgrade question

I will let you know. I will have it Tuesday or Weds probably. The one they said to use on Kingston, Best Buy does not sale or I would already have it. KVR667D2S5/2G

It looks like the same is recommended for yours too. I am not sure what the "Non-ECC" thing is, but maybe that has something to with the compatibility.

Re: Memory upgrade question

ECC is error correction code, or parity checking. Only certain computers can use it.
