I'm Extemely new to the laptop gameing world so i need a new Video card. For The money, is this card worth it and can my laptop even run it? it mentions something about a 300w power supply and i dont even know where i can find that. You *CANNOT* replace or upgrade the graphics in a laptop.  Sorry...you are stuck with what you have.

In rare cases you can - but the upgrades in these cases are only sold as replacement parts from the manufacturer, and it is never financially feasibly these days.  (The only times I've seen it make sense were for dropping the graphics card from a Dell Inspiron 8200 into an Inspiron 8000, or dropping the card from a 2006-era Inspiron XPS into the Inspiron E1705.  The latter did require some Dremeling though...)

Laptop graphics cards are almost always (99% of the time) a custom form factor that is only compatible with laptops from the same manufacturer, and typically only with closely related laptops from that manufacturer.

Also, in all cases, laptops that use Intel integrated graphics are NOT upgradable.  I'm assuming that if you're upgrading TO a GT520, you are trying to upgrade FROM Intel GMA.

To answer your specific question the card listed above is for desktop systems.

Re: Is My Laptop Compatible with Galaxy - GeForce GT 520 1GB DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 Graphics Card?

1. The graphics in *YOU* laptop is not replaceable or upgradable.

2.  An external graphics solution would cost more than your laptop is worth, and probably wouldnt be enough to matter, because of the processor/motherboard chipset on your computer.

3.  The size/type of monitor connected to the laptop dows not affect the performance of the built in graphics.  You still cannot play high-end games.

I guess I have to be blunt so that you understand your situation and stop grasping at straws:

You are unfortunately stuck with what you have. You will not be able to play high end games with your current hardware.  You cannot upgrade the graphics.  You cannot upgrade the graphis.  I'll say it one ore time, in hopes that you stop searching for "smaller" video cards....You cannot upgrade the graphics.

I am sorry, but it just cannot be done in your case.

Re: Is My Laptop Compatible with Galaxy - GeForce GT 520 1GB DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 Graphics Card?

Hi,

Thanks for the expert responses.  I will have to agree with the feedback offered.  It has been stressed that you can't upgrade the graphics card in your unit.   Based on the list cost in HP's system, as one response indicated, other upgrades are probably not cost effective.

The experts already seem to be familiar with the DV6-3231 but here are the specs:

Let us know if you have other questions other than those that have already been answered by the experts.
