You will want a Docsis 3.0 compatible cable modem. Are you allowing your budget to purchase a Wifi router along with your cable modem or would you like this functionality built into the cable modem itself? If you are looking for built in, make sure it has at least Wireless N built in. Wireless AC is much preferred in this day in age, but unless your laptop does not support it, Wireless N will do for you.
Arris is known for telephone / internet combo devices, I think bought by Motorola Corp at one point.

I will second AWBrowns suggestion. I think your better off with separate components.
I don't have a lot of modem experience as I have always rented the modem from my provider. Mine only costs $5 a month and the one I would buy for myself is $130 and they replace it if anything goes bad on it.
For a router I am really happy with my Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 Router. I have it centered in my house. I can turn off the data on my phone and go strictly WiFi and and I can stream music while mowing my lawn and never lose the signal.
Costs more but the speed and range are worth it to me.
